Mine's mostly silver! Swapping back to ssd on usb the sound is so much more satisfying. Very similar to my vinyl dare I say. Unctuous. I prefer spoti over BT to Tidal.
With streaming I swap around too much really. I can't settle to playing albums. I need self control.
The same music on a USB stick sounds better in my car... That's with pro logic 7 manipulation into 14 speakers. They call them speakers but they are drivers. Judged the same way my main hifi system has 10 drivers.

I find the balance from Qobuz is just right, even for 'ordinary' 16/44 streams. This is Qobuz over 4G EE, by the way. Incredible when I think of the quality I'm getting.

Hmm, interesting comments about TIDAL and streaming in general. It would be really interesting to hear your systems!! - my guess is that we would all prefer our own. ..... and the problem with that idea is that we'd be judging each other's systems with our own tastes in music rather than the music the system was designed to play. But I guess that's a different thread.

But an interesting thought though.

But I guess that's a different thread. It is I suppose. I use different power amps which suit different moods/genres. Class D, 300 SE, EL84 PSE and a certain Philips Class A/B SS amp. I need to ring the changes to extract different aspects to my music...but you know more about that than I!

You do realise that by the time the data reaches the DAC, files and streaming are the same? The quality is all in the timing. Careful now! Every time anyone in the history of the reproduction of music has made a statement that one thing is the same as another, they have later been proven to be wrong.

Let's cut out all the variables: you purchase a 24/96 download file from Qobuz. You place it in your NAS. You play it and it sounds different from the streamed version.
Is it more likely that Qobuz offer a different download file compared with the streamed version? Or is it likely that the path from NAS to DAC and from internet to DAC are different in your system?

Yes, but bear in mind that mine is mostly black whereas Martin's is silver! Just saying... The winner !

I’ve just started streaming for casual listening to unfamiliar music via Quobuz. Its decent quality but still prefer physical medium for serious listening.

Thanks for that Robin. What are you using to stream with?

An Auralic Aries into a Benchmark dac then into a pair of Stellia headphones.

What a waste of space, stating the effing obvious as if it's profound - he got paid for that article?

Glad you enjoyed it Jerry! I saw value in it, when he asked people to keep sharing their new discoveries. That's what we do here at TAS and in other places, but not everyone is like us.

I'm listening to a new-to-me album right now.
I think the issue may actually be the desire not to take a scattergun approach to new music. I could listen to random song after song and be mostly disappointed. However, when I research and join the dots I often stumble upon something marvellous (like just now with Ingrid Michaelson). It's hugely rewarding, but the statistics of how much new music I listen to may not be fully representative.
