I built a pair of open baffle line-array speakers based on Paul Hynes ideas - his employed 8 Visaton B200 units wired in parallel - I used 4 per channel.
This obviously produces a problem for the amplifier driving them - the load is 0.75 ohms - most amps seeing this will die.
Paul's solution was to build his own amp which of course I had to build, it is odd in that there are about 7 components in the amplifier and the power-supply is one of his 12 volt regulated power supplies.
Luckily the drive units being in parallel offer 104db per watt as the amp is only capable of producing a few watts.
I ended up not being 100% happy with the sound of the B200's. I may retry at some point with Mark Audio drive units which I have used in other speakers.

Interesting, what aspects of them did you not like so much?

Are they based on KEF B200s?

Yes I remember Paul talking about them I heard the Mark Audio 12p quite a lot in Open baffle its quite good but think the PRV are a lot better for this type of application

These are the B200 Martin Thanks - they don't look related to the KEF unit.

Nope. Good driver though, use them in my OB's.

To my ears there were a couple of problems with the B200 - a mid-range bump coupled with a rolled-off top-end.
The mid range could be tackled with a BSC (Baffle Step Correction) circuit plus use of a phase-plug; the top end could be augmented with a tweeter / super-tweeter. However the main reason for going down the full-range / line-array was to get away from cross-over type components. Compared to the OBs I made using Hawthorne Silver Iris drivers I never felt as drawn into the music with the B200s - I might at some point try the Sterling Silver units.
With the MarkAudio drive units in their various horn-loaded cabinets I never felt the need to add anything to them - OK at times the power handling could be better but in terms of frequency response they were fine.

The Hawthornes are very well balanced and the Radian tweeter gives it a more detailed sound whilst still retaining the speed. Darrel a great person I think the Mark audio drivers really suit Horn loaded speakers. With Open baffles even with augmented bass it is asking quite a lot from them. The 12p still sounds good but no real improvement on the Hawthornes imo

I've got myself a pair of Mark Audio Alpair 12P drivers, and plan A) is to try them on my baffles.
They are secondhand, so at least they won't need extensive running in.
How soon depends on the weather as cutting BBP has to be done outside.

Great Phil
A couple of weeks ago I got some TESLA ARO 9408s they are super rare. Everything is lovely and deep and bass instruments just breath through my system.

Really looking forward to hearing these James It's funny, I was a bit disappointed when I first heard them. as they are quite hard to find, well the 8ohm ones are anyway, there popularity is quite small, but they sell for a shed load on Ebay, those that know about them have normally come from Altec Lancing / JBL club, and the TESLAs are meant to show these a good clean pair of heals. When I put them in, I didn't get what all the fuss was about, but as the days passed and I began to chill out I became more and more impressed with them, and that's without changing the xover to suit them. So in time I hope to play around with the Xover and see what I can do with them.

I've now got the Alpair 12P on my baffles.
I've not changed the crossover, but listening tests have seen me add 2R series resistance to the 12P.
Best sound I've ever had.
