Aye, was lucky to find a couple of offcuts. Even more lucky as they were posted wrapped in a couple of bin liners!

Those Kryon OBs are the ones to show the other half before you show her the ones you really want (not telling her the price of course and unless you have that sort of dough)

The ultimate zero baffles?

The ultimate zero baffles? Amazing looking speakers, I think they have a minimalist Giger vibe. Maybe a stupid question but, does the size of the driver used in an OB effect the distance it needs to be from the rear wall i.e. could an 8" driver be placed closer to the wall than a 15"? It makes sense to me that a 15" driver would need to be further away from the rear wall but that's pure speculation, I've not yet found any guidelines on rear wall placement but maybe this is completely room dependent?

I've found OB's to be fairly flexible as to placement - more so than box speakers anyway. How far away from the wall can you go?

For me they still have a sweet spot with regards to placement but more flexible than box speakers I used in the past

I've found OB's to be fairly flexible as to placement - more so than box speakers anyway. How far away from the wall can you go? Okay, so I still have very little understanding of all matters audio and even I realise this is pretty crazy, but here it is: I'm looking into using OB's for Home Cinema. For front L&R I have plenty of space to play with, due to a fireplace the centre is a little trickier but I have options, rear speakers are the challenge. The room is 5m wide and seating occupies 2.6m of this space leaving 1.2m either side (both of which are walkways). I'm wondering whether I could ceiling mount an OB with an A12P approximately 600mm from the wall (distance from wall reducing away from ceiling to angle speaker towards listening position). I'm hoping this would allow the ceiling to be used for reinforcement whilst keeping the speaker out of the way and hopefully dispersing the sound of both L&R surround speakers across the seating?? I'm guessing the boundary effect of the ceiling is not as suitable as the floor but I live in a bungalow so I do have options for treating the roof space above the OB's to deaden as much as possible. If that makes sense: Would a maximum 600mm distance from rear wall be adequate for an OB housing an 8" driver? Is using the ceiling feasible? There doesn't seem to be a lot of info about doing this (I'm guessing probably for good reason), here is an alternative solution (http://www.hawthorneaudio.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1299&st=0&sk=t&sd=a).

The only system I know that has a similar open baffle set up in the UK is Vic's. If memory serves me right his rear speakers are pretty much close to the rear wall compared to his front speakers his front speakers.

I would guess that the Alpair would be fine at that distance. Bit of a suck it and see though..

So not completely in the realm of insanity then, thanks chaps. I need to knock up some drawings but it would seem then in principle what I'm hoping to achieve may be possible. Having matching surround speakers is one of my biggest concern for front L&R, I have a very busy couple of weeks coming up but I'm quite excited by the prospect of beginning an OB build in August!

Not yet John, though I now have some Crysler midrange horns and Isophon horn tweeters to use. About 105db, so very efficient. Will have to back off the gain a bit to match the Alphas, or find some very efficient woofers to use.
