Encouraged by positive results reported in a thread at HFS I've just ordered a "proper" 8-way switch, a Cisco Catalyst 2960G-8TC-L Apparently, there is also a good thread about switches on SteteoNet. What you can't see from that pic is that it's mains-powered so no wall-wart/Chinese PSU. It's also " configurable" but apparently sounds good even without configuration, which is the way many people are running them. Another suggestion (from Nick/Lurcher) is to run a separate network just for the audio traffic, but that is something I probably won't attempt, especially as there are some configuration problems when using W10 it's been reported and I don't have the requisite leads or drivers. This model of switch was last manufactured in 2013, and Cisco ceased supporting them in 2018, consequently it cost me £49.95 including delivery. It's a pity I only bought a new 8 port switch in January. Plugged in, powered up, registering correctly on the network, and all is working. Whether it sounds any better or not I can't really say as the album I'm playing was recorded over 50 years ago.

Possibly looking to do this build sometime.
Anyone use it in a Roon environment? I'm guessing it is not powerful enough to run Roon Core but fine as a Roon end-point?
Any tips/tricks/pitfalls?
I imagine either loading Ropiee or Roon Rock as the operating system (both of which I know well).
But I guess I could load Volumio on it (I think I still have some months left on an account over at Volumio) after having trailed their Primo tinker board thing some time ago.
I see many of you are using the oehlbach masterclock thing. Oehlbach Germany are selling it for peanuts (Eur50) whereas Amazon UK are selling it for silly money. Can anyone confirm please if the wallmart oehlbach supply is full range input (i.e covers 230/240v).
Cheers Edward

The power supply to the Oehlbach is quite good being medical grade. I would recommend the unit at 50 euros as a bargain

Definitely a bargain and I decided to give one a try for € 49,99 with free delivery in Germany (reduced from € 199,00 it seems).

Only 49.99? Well contrary to what I just said in the 'Lockdown Fever' thread I may pick one up - see if it will integrate into my vinyl ripping set up.

Perhaps Oehlbach are shortly bringing out a Mark ii version and want to get rid of what will be dead stock? Just the cynic in me.

It did cross my mind as that is quite a reduction, and it's not across the board of their products.
