I was really hoping they'd have to try to explain a "gender fluid" Bond.

Thank goodness. They would have been a laughing stock otherwise.

Thank goodness. They would have been a laughing stock otherwise. That would rather depend on their target demographic. If it's as it appears to be, middle-aged blokes and those other people who remember Sean Connery before he became a tax-exile then yes, they probably would be somewhat perturbed by having to grasp a new concept. If they aimed Bond at people with a pulse then I think a female Bond would be perfectly acceptable. I think a large part of them not having plans to make Bond female is because they're not confident of doing it well enough, not because the idea itself is a bad one. Right, I'm off to the doctor now, to see if he can remove my tongue from my cheek.

Mmm, I'm not interested in Connery. It's the Fleming character from the books and he is male.
Tongue removed from cheek.

The new Bond theme song by Billie Eilish. Sounds excellent on first listen, then again I'm a fan.

The new Bond theme song by Billie Eilish. Sounds excellent on first listen, then again I'm a fan. A detailed musical analysis of Billie Eilish’s new Bond theme, ‘No Time to Die’Bond geeks, music nerds, pull up a chair: we’ve had a listen to Billie Eilish’s new 007 theme, and broken down its harmony, orchestration and vocals. ‘No Time to Die’ is the new James Bond theme, recorded by pop singer Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell in their childhood bedroom studio. A bedroom studio might not sound very 007, but the music sure does. Eilish, 18, is also the youngest artist in history to write and record a James Bond theme. All very impressive. But musically, what’s actually going on in ‘No Time to Die’? We’ve had a listen and offered up some thoughts. LINK

Hans Zimmer can do little wrong, too.

Am I the only one here who thinks the new Bond theme is utter pants?
It's just so lazy and unimaginative, merely a rehash of recent songs, themes and incidental music that they have blended into a 'new' song; with more than a hint of Skyfall even, it lacks any of the originality of the best Bond themes.
The only saving grace is the vocal - what a shame it wasn’t put to better use!

We played all the bond themes and discussed them at length last night. I still say the Billie Eilish is one of the best - Bondian but restrained with tiny elements of John Barry in there.

Just had to pick myself up off the floor in a mild state of shock. Had you been taking acid or something?

It's a bit late-period-Bond-theme-by-the-numbers to my ears.
Close miked female singer; check. Dramatic background timps: Check. Distorted-guitar motif: Check: Brass decrescendo followed by violin arpeggio leading into the bridge: Check Big loud bit: Check Quiet but moody outro: Check End on a Maj 9th chord that shouldn't work but does: Check
I don't actually dislike it though, which is more than I can say for most of her stuff that I've listened to.

I suspect a copy will end up on the dark web before it gets released...

I'm going to miss Daniel Craig as 007, he has been fantastic.
Here's the final trailer for No Time To Die. Locations look great.

Anyone going to see the new Bond at the cinema?
I'm definitely going once it's a bit less crowded. Most reviews very positive indeed.

Blu-ray for me, with all the extras. If anyone's interested, by the way, Argos are knocking out the 24-film Bond Blu-ray box set for £35.00 at the moment.
