But the new Bond hasn't been confirmed yet as far as I know, just rumours.
I will be very surprised if they decide to go for a female Bond, in spite of what this movie suggests. The Craig films have been a huge box-office success - the public haven't tired of the 'formula' so why throw it away? It all boils down to finding the magic combination of actor / script / director and that will never change.

Lashana Lynch is widely rumoured to be the new 007 ( my comment is based on that rumour so it might be totally wrong lol ) hence my comment about it dying a death.
Very few successful action movie franchises with female leads.
My biggest issue with a female lead ( if it happens) is that fight scenes are ridiculous when it comes to fighting a man who is trained to the same level, I don't care what anyone says, men are still faster and stronger, and a woman would get their ass kicked.
That's not being sexist or whatever it's just how it is, we don't see male/female fights on the real world for good reason and in the movies it just looks ridiculous. I know it's fiction and entertainment but it's just spoils it for me.
IF they go for a female 007 I predict the opening weekend of the replacement 007 movie to take in less than half the last Daniel Craig version. I hope I'm wrong, I suppose we'll have to wait until 2022 or 2023 to find out.
Edit: the rumour could also be a massive red herring 😂

Look, it's quite simple. James Bond is a character taken from a series of books by Ian Fleming. He's a MAN!
Sometimes I despair at this politically correct age where one dare not say a woman cannot play any part she desires. So can she play a man, then?

I think I mentioned in another thread about perhaps they could have Meryl Streep play Hitler

Yes of course James Bond was written as a man, but perhaps they are looking to evolve the franchise in a new way with a new character.
Daniel Craig has done an amazing job in my opinion to prove that there is still life in the traditional James Bond character if done in a contemporary way. The producers are probably considering whether a female Bond style 'character' will give them a new audience. Personally I think this would be a big gamble as they will probably lose as many fans as they will gain new ones.
At the end of the day day most of us love Bond as he is and are not actually looking for any radical change, the appeal of the character lies in the original way he was written with all of his weaknesses, strengths, warts and all.

I think it is about time that non-prime numbers had a chance!

James Bond is the quintessential English spy. So far he's been portrayed by a Scotsman, an Irishman who became a naturalised American, a Welshman, an Australian, an actual American, and a few Englishmen too. One of the favourites to take over the role before Craig was Idris Elba. He's black. Is a female James Bond really a casting session too far?

What are they going to call her, Jane Bond?
If they want a female lead star, start a different franchise!

Perhaps they could reprise Modesty Blaise, again...
There was a TV series, and a Tarantino film too.

Thing is they're not changing James Bond, they're changing 007 so really it can be anyone.
The point I was trying to make is that if they make 007 a woman the film will bomb. Even if they're doing it to empower women it won't make the blind bit of difference because a lot of women don't tend to watch action movies.
Unless it's starring a hunk 😉😂

The thing is, there are some great badass female characters like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Atomic Kitten among others, that do things their own way. No need to spoil a franchise about a male spy called James Bond.

That says it all really Martin!
Some interesting comments about diversity in the new Bond. Both the villains are facially disfigured which hasn't gone down too well in some quarters. I can understand where the complaints are coming from - they are really pushing the female roles but they've still got old school disfigured 1960's style villains, a bit like Dr Evil ...😁

A *Lesbian* Bond ! That would appeal to some and a few might be at least outwardly upset
