I thought it might be good to create a thread dedicated to live albums
I enjoy a good live album they can capture the spontaneity of a live performance but can be hit or miss
So be good for people to add live albums they enjoy
I start off with a 3 and add more over the weeks
Deep Purple Made In Japan This captures Deep Purple Mk2 at their peak The spontaneity and improvisation is a real highlight to this album Ritchie is at his peak and Ian can still sing at this stage in his career.
Next up is 3 great guitar players playing together A great recording and fully captures how much they respect each other
Next is Frank Zappa Roxy and Elsewhere I have to admit a few tracks I find irritating but on the whole, it has some great tracks like Cheepnis

Hawkwind - Space Ritual for me is the ultimate performance of their psychedelic space rock. Don't go looking for great sound quality, just feel the songs.
Peter Gabriel - Plays Live from 1983 is another excellent performance, he puts everything into it and the whole experience is superb.

"801 Live", Brian Eno with other Ex Roxys has always been one of my favourite live albums
The 1974 "David Live" album which sort of bridges the transition from Diamond dogs to Young Americans has always been a favourite and at a young age set me thinking about the underlying R&B / Soul music in rock and pop.

Is this the best version John? There is the original mix, your '98 remaster and the 2014 ...

My traditional favourites are -
Ozzy - Live and Loud
Scorpions - World Wide Live
But current favourite is Toto - 40 Tours Around the Sun. This is the same set list they played at the Albert Hall show I attended, so a great memento for me.

Who could forget 'Live at Leeds'?
Another 'being there' album. My early vinyl pressing is incredible for that. The best example of Moonie's crazy drumming. The CD I have of it is like a damp squib compared to it.
