It really is very satisfying when you can listen to music and take the hardware for granted.

It all looks fantastic, it really does. Wish I was able to have my gear beautifully organised in such a zen like way ...

Sounds like you’ve got a lovely system and like myself you’ve found how good Quadral speakers really are.

Sounds like you’ve got a lovely system and like myself you’ve found how good Quadral speakers really are. Indeed; I can’t believe I don’t read more about them on the forums, they deserve far greater publicity. Further listening has shown me just how nuanced these speakers are, especially at the top end (jumpers burning in?!). They allow extra sparkle and air through, which seems to tie everything together, it’s an interesting experience which I’m really enjoying. The added bonus is a brightness that the Ushers had has been removed, making lots of tracks listenable to. Win win!

The Usher DMD tweeters were always implemented far too feisty for my tastes. The Quadral ribbons are a much better transducer imo.

Agreed, the previous Beryllium tweeters (as on mine) are much better balanced.

For the record, I'm referencing the Usher S520s, they are silk domed, but still had a slightly bright edge with certain sounds. The Mini Dancer IIs had the diamond tweeter and yes, that too had an edge to it.
It's like a sigh of relief when you're released from the brightness lol.

Was the brightness one of those things you notice more when gone ?

Was the brightness one of those things you notice more when gone ? Fair question Mike and in both instances (both Usher speakers) for me, no. I was aware of them at the time, more so with the bookshelves... idk if this means they’re the brighter speakers, there could be 100 contributory factors. I found with both models that rock music was the worst impacted, with electric guitars sounding more grating than what I was willing to put up with. Btw, to your earlier point on deoxit being a pain, you’re certainly right there; it does take discipline to be arsed to do it, but every time I do, I’m reminded why it’s worthwhile lol. I’m sure as systems get more transparent, this becomes increasingly important as they tend to respond more to small things such as this.

Random food for thought:
My dog, Reginald, has been particularly engaged by my speaker change; he’s reacting to music he’s heard many times before with the ‘twisty interested head’ and looking about when ambient cues are playing.
He must be hearing new things / at least a new perspective, to drive new behaviours.
Has anyone else experienced this with pets / family members with better hearing than yourselves?

I may have had brightness in older systems. Always upgraded to get a better overall sound. Maybe visitors who came to the Linn Naim system a few years back noticed Naim brightness though
Digby the long hair miniature Dachshund notices a lot the others don't bother with. Deep bass particularly but recently other notes
Being a fairly recent addition to the pack I can't say if this is upgrades or just him.

I never bore looking at other peoples set-ups. I only have a Facebook account with scant personal information so I can join groups and admire away. This set up is very very impressive. Clear a lot of love has gone into it. Love the OCD evident here. I have young kids too, but my rack is 90kg alone and kit lives well inside it....for me protecting the speakers is the worry...no grilles and they sit on a commonly passed walking point between rooms....so I know at some point they will take a knock!

Sorry I don’t know how I missed this post; thank you for your appreciation:) That’s a damn heavy rack, what is it? I feel your fear re speakers; I will have floor standers again as soon at it’s feasible for me.

I didn't like the silver colour of my DC blocker, so I masked up the meters and spray painted it black; I'm pleased with the outcome: IMG_5751 by Martin Johnson, on Flickr

Thinking about the RDC cones. I find little items of kit precarious on the pyramid shape RDC 2s. I use a mixture with small kit on the much flatter RDC 5s Have you ever tried the RDC 5s ?

Yes Mike, under small items they work well.
