You've probably already seen this, Martin (It took me all of ten seconds to find) but just in case you missed it: 5g.co.uk/unlimited-data-sim/

I have, Paul. The problem is that TP-Link don't have a 5G router in their product range yet (and I want TP-Link as they're very good) and there is no 5G coverage in our area, or even planned in the near future, so it's not worth thinking about at the moment.

How so? It's exactly the same as broadband except you plug a SIM into the back of it rather than connect it to a phone line. My experience with technology says I can break it on sight Is that anoter SIM for my mobile and a TP-Link MR6400 Nothing else ? If I take the mobile out with me then the boss has no interweb ?

Get a SIM-only contract, you only need the SIM and a TP-Link MR6400. One point: check your coverage with the service providers to ensure that you will have a decent signal. They all have coverage maps. If Three is good then they are the best to go for unlimited data.

Will ask around to see if anyone has 3 Does or can mobile coverage vary ?

3G coverage "Very good service Indoor & Outdoor" Nice surprise Will the 5G bit step down to 3G ?
I would cease the landline. Can I set up the existing house phones to the TP Link or set up the mobiles to use it ? Do we then have either of our mobiles as the phone number ?

Yes indeed, the different operators can use different masts so one service can be good while another is poor.
It's 4G you want really, not 3G.
No, you cannot tie a landline or phone service to the 4G router.

EE sent the boss an email
Are you paying for something you don't need (a landline)
Investigated Fibre 19Mb speed £26 a month 4G with home router £35 a month add £8 a month for landline
Not a good deal it seems, especially as the boss has to go outside to get her mobile to work Also had more caveats and details than look good

I am thinking seriously of doing the same for the main barn as for my music room.
- 4G router £80 (purchase outright, never build into the monthly) - SIM-only contract with 100GB/mo £30 - no landline (we all use mobiles to make outbound calls already)
I will probably do this at the end of the Plusnet contract. It'll double our speed, too.

How much data do you think you need if switching to mobile broadband? The problem here is that we only have coverage by EE - they do a 200Gb SIM for, I think, £23 - but would it be sufficient with 3 kids, Netflix etc etc?
Cheers. Bill

That's a good question. I have 100GB for the music room and it's plenty (I typically use 20-30GB per month for hi-res streaming).
200GB for £23 would be great value and might well do the job. I also use EE (BT) mobile network.

Unlimited is down from £26 to £13, which undercuts 100GB at £18.
Simple, innit!

The technology and dumping the phone line, given my luck with tech seems a step too far
Plusnet will do me for line rental saver £197.88 (16.49 p month) £3 a month broadband (!) £9 a month call charges. Sounds a lot but the prices per call made without that would make it more

£19.7.8 a month - a snip that 🙂 But the addons kill it. What speed for £3
We never use a fixed phone. Not even plugged in. All you get is cold / scam calls. Have more mins on the mobiles included in £5 a month than we can use. Virtually never get scam calls to mobiles. Easy to block numbers too.
I use this fact to negotiate a better deal with our line / broadband provider.

Not confident the tech would work for me 100% Lots of grief from the boss when it doesn't work
