So Topping have released a new version of the D90 called the D90LE - it doesn't have MQA to pacify those on a certain "science" audio website who were crying themselves to sleep over it. www.tpdz.net/productinfo/835893.htmlHere's the funny bit though - apparently you can press a button to make it sound like a valve amp - LOOOLLLL.

lt's funny we are starting to see quite a few Chinese DAC with ESS chips, with so called different filters, giving different shades of playback.
l am looking forward to the next batch of AKM chips ,however l also like to see a built in PEQ into these Chinese DAC, instead of shades, and basic tone control.
l won't mention MQA, as that's a debate in itself.

Yikes, the Gustard R26 could be a real gamechanger considering the tech, streaming capability and price. Even has provision for an external clock.
Looking forward to the reviews...

It will depend on whether you like the R2R sound.

L7Audio (Wolf) tests the Gustard R26. Nothing about the sound quality, but Wolf really never discusses that. I’ll keep my x26Pro for now. www.l7audiolab.com/f/gustard-r26/

Some challenging Chinglish in the translation -
"Was it Gothic's castration in order to sell the clock?"
As far as I understand it these R2R DACs are never going to measure great anyway...

never going to measure great anyway... Yeah, it’s all about the sound Dynamic Range (hi/lo sound) however was disappointing, Multitone looked good Crosstalk was phenomenal, SINAD was kinda low. Looked great inside. They should do a transparent top.

The display looks like the size I would have wanted. It has the K2 clock synthesiser - good move.
I'm just not sure about R2R yet.

I have only heard a Rockna Wavelight, my kind of DAC but expensive. It has a great app and can customise the sound on the fly, and you can hear the changes, unlike a lot of DACs I wonder if some of the other R2r DAC's are a bit to polite for me

How did the sound of the Rockna compare with the Gustard? Any particular characteristics of R2R you can describe?
The off-putting thing for me about R2R is that they are often described as DAC's for those who prefer tubes.

Hard to fully compare as a different system and did not have the A22 on hand but the overall sound was every thing I like with the A22 but more depth and clarity. These days I want to hear the naturalness of the sound of instruments but still have the attack I need for sruff like Dream Theatre and Zero Hour
I think stuff like the Aries and Terminator might be too tube like for me

The perfect DAC for me needs natural and accurate tone / timbre for classical and crushing dynamics / attack for Zero Hour time.
