Let's see if the mercurial HH is at her 5***** best on this new album featuring Dvořák’s and Ginastera’s Violin Concertos as well as Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy. I have high expectations.

Well I only managed 3 minutes of the Dvorak and that was a struggle. The performance didn’t tell me anything about the work and sounded somewhat ‘going through the motions’ as if she wasn’t that interested … I'm not tempted to persist with it at present.

A new Beethoven VC from Vilde Frang.
We'll have to see if this can get anywhere close to my favourites from Tetzlaff and Krebbers.

A new solo violin release from the divinely gifted Rachel Podger, including a transcription of Bach's most famous Toccata and Fugue - is she peerless with this kind of repertoire?

Not actually a "new" new release, but it is the latest freebee from Naxos, and I thought it might interest you guys.

I love Batiz in his Saint-Saens Symphony No.3 perfomance, so this is well worth a try.

Batiz is extremely good with 'colour' as I found in his Albeniz recording so Respighi should be his thing too ...

Who needs another Rach PC2?
I do if it's something special - this new release from Anna Fedorova is getting some good press so I'll be checking it out. Should sound good too with the recording on the usually reliable Channel Classics.

Not actually a "new" new release, but it is the latest freebee from Naxos, and I thought it might interest you guys. Fantastic opening to Pines. Nice pace and superb wide-screen soundstage with lots of detail. You're sitting around row E, so quite close to the stage. Batiz brings the same excitement as he brings to the Saint-Saens 3rd. The organ is there and audible but not as potent as the Lane/Atlanta recording (but then, nothing is). Otherwise, this is a musical feast with very fine performance and sound.

New album from last year's Leeds winner must be worth checking out.

This is funny as we all seem to have the same opinion of some of Rattle's releases. It's great that he's come good with Mahler's 9th.

I'll have to keep an open mind on this one then!

Have you listened to Rattle's new Mahler 9, Martin?
Dave H makes a very persuasive case for it so I have saved it for later listening.

Also saved here for later listening. I don't play the 9th lightly, too emotional and needs my undivided attention.

Now then MartinT I wonder how your speakers will deliver this new recording on BIS of Scriabin's immortal Poem of Ecstasy? Please report back after playing very LOUD.

Nikolai Lugansky is an absolutely luminary interpreter of Rachmaninov in my eyes, he brings such emotional weight and drama to the music.
Here he revisits the Etudes Tableaux 30 years after first recording them.
Just wonderful.
