This might be of interest to those who enjoy some contemporary choral.
Eilífur (Eternal) is Icelandic contemporary composer Viktor Orri Árnason’s solo debut which contemplates the prospect of life immortal.

This must be worth a listen - a new 24 Preludes from Alice Sara Ott, interspersed with some intriguing contemporary selections. Interesting concept!

I didn't get very far with this Beethoven at all - much as I enjoy the orchestral overture to the VC, it can feel like an eternity waiting for the solo violin to make an entrance and therein lies the challenge for the soloist - anticipation builds up hotly so you need to make it count!
But I can't hear anything exceptional in terms of tone, timbre, phrasing, interpretation etc, which means I'm not moved to make the rest of the 'journey' with the violinist.
That may seem harsh but with so much music to listen to in my digital library I'm going to move onto something else quickly. Others may have more patience.

Excellent - this is the eleventh ‘Fantasia on a Theme’ to add to my collection!
I really must do a shoot-out to crown a winner.
The album is a compilation of the last two well received ‘British Project’ album releases by Mirga / CBSO, with the addition of some Elgar and the VW.

Latest in the excellent Shostakovich cycle from Nelsons. I had time to listen to this (the 15th) on Qobuz in 24/96. It's pretty good, if not as madly idiosyncratic as Rohzdestvensky.

I think it's a superb series Martin, I think the cycle is nearly complete. Unfortunately, he hasn't done the 13th yet. What's keeping him?
