Give em hell, Martin. Today is a landmark day. Doesn't sound like a fun drive each morning. You can leave that one to the birds after today. Good luck. Fro, backyard looks great man. I've always thought there gotta be nothing better than to have some property to do building projects on.

15:00 Have we reached "Sherry with the Head" yet? No - this new one couldn't give a t*ss about IT.

How did it go in there Martin? What transpired? How was the ride in/out?

How did it go in there Martin? What transpired? How was the ride in/out? My last day? It was full of reminders from staff that my countdown had reached 0. Lots of handshakes, hugs, kisses and man-hugs. A few tears (not mine). Much kindness even from staff I didn't know well. Some cards, a present and lots of chat about what I'm doing next (or what they're doing next). I looked at the gorgeous grounds, the fields, the Sixth Form Centre, knowing I would never see them full of students again. I spent the end of the day - as appropriate - extracting an Outlook PST mailbox file in Microsoft Purview, archiving it and dealing with just one more staff ticket. My team and I talked for a bit and I praised them and wished each member the very best for the future. I found a box for my belongings and we laughed about my crying while walking to the car park, looking as if I'd just been fired. It was only missing a pot plant. My drive in had been full of the things I had to get done on the last day. My drive home was a curious mixture of emptying my mind of work and the lifting of so much stress. The ever-present traffic did not part for me - they seemed oblivious! I got home and Ruth and I had coffee at the pergola in the garden before it got too chilly for her. I read out some of the goodbye messages from the cards. The best comment? "So long and thanks for all the phish", a reference to all the e-mail phishing training I had given over the years.

I'll always remember the comment from Keith G when I left Rank Xerox
"I didn't get where I am today by leaving"
-you have to know CJ from Reggie Perrin, popular at the time
They must be mad to let you go without anything agreed for you to go back for the odd bit of trouble shooting More fool them. Lucky you

It's an interesting process disconnecting from something you've been involved in 5 days a week.
I guess we all handle it differently.
I didn't miss it one bit.
That might have been assisted by having parted with the excellent company I lived for, many years before , and the crappy companies with rubbish leadership and dubious staff relations etc I'd been working for the last 10 years of my 9 to 5 life (more like 8 to 5+)!
I remember being able to go out and play tennis, walk, cycle etc in the morning / afternoon sunshine when ever I felt like it.
Great feeling.

Worried me how I would cope having worked mostly 6 days a week Helped that I sold my company and the new owners took a lot of work from me, did it wrong and very expensively, which rankled Music helps quite a bit

I really don't think I'll miss it apart from a handful of staff whose camaraderie and humour helped make the days bearable.
I'm listening to music now and the lack of stress makes it more enjoyable than ever.
