Good idea Martin but I have canvassed all the courses locally and in all cases they are not happy about anyone coming in and doing their own work they want you to get involved in their course as well . Currently this is almost always not really stained glass based but involves using molten glass in a kiln which I have to say has no real interest for me .

I'm finding myself acquiring a new-found policy of "Do it now"!
Aware of my age and what good years I may have left in me, my previous careful reserve and patience for things to come is slowly being replaced with a "why wait?" attitude. It's changing my thought processes and feels quite liberating.

Same logic, live a bit more with more disposable income while you can 🙂 I have some of these. Same can be achieved with drawdown if you have sizeable Defined Contribution pots of course

Yes, I will have income streams sufficient to live on, and a pot of money from which I can draw as required.

It's changing my thought processes and feels quite liberating. I had that a few years back, well after retiring. Rediscovered recently with streaming chain being beefed up Spurred on by the purchases of Madam and various other family members All items have a 'reason' that melts away like an ice cream in hot sun

So many things to think about when planning detachment from work, it's like preparing for divorce.
I've been keeping all my passwords in the personal section of LastPass Team that we use at work. I recently took out my own personal subscription to LastPass and spent an hour copying over all my personal passwords, credit cards etc. That's one more tiny bit of separation done.
Did I mention the excellent deal for Office 365 if you take it out before you leave work? Don't leave it until after you've left or it'll be too late. Assuming you use 365 at work, of course. £41.99/annum, which is £3.50/mo for full 365 with 1TB of OneDrive space.

Also separation of calendars. I was used to marking up everything in my work calendar with different colours for personal etc. I have now started using my own Office calendar and to-do list. It means my phone carries a lot of duplicate accounts but that will simplify in September.

Yes, I will have income streams sufficient to live on, and a pot of money from which I can draw as required. It's the pot of money that worries me. With the fiscal drag we are now having to worry about paying taxes on our hard earned savings. I might have to get some advice on how to handle this issue. Let's hope that the next government increases the tax threshold.

Get a good financial adviser, they're definitely worth it.

I have enjoyed filling in my exit form at work. They promise to circulate it to 'the powers that be' only after I've left. I really couldn't give a damn whether they read it now, later or not at all. I haven't held back in some of the frustrations that working in IT have engendered in me: the lack of acknowledgement for the work done behind the scenes; out of hours and weekend work to keep things operational and perform updates; the 'us and them' culture where teachers are put on a pedestal while the rest of us treated as second class; the need to keep up with technology and self-educate at a level unknown in any other field of work; how one mistake can result in serious criticism but it's never balanced with any appreciation of all the successful improvements made. I could go on, a lifetime of grinding workloads, relatively poor pay, unreasonable expectations, entitlement and reluctance to invest in training. Great to get it off my chest

Another retirement house project. My wife helped me install this 400lb solid Oak barn door between our MBR and bathroom.

Been wondering how easily my time is filled. Listening to music is a big part Projects ? Hah Getting through the day doing all I have to do is a victory I have projects I need contractors in for and hesitating on that
Keeping an eye on 7 dogs takes a fair amount of time. 2 walks a day, 2 meals a day. Timing to make sure the outside toilet is used doesn't always work. They must also be contributing to the amount of dust we have, certainly the amount of dog hair that needs vacuuming increased when the latest 3 arrived
I save time on regular things and still use it up
