Playing a musical instrument later in life is meant to be effective at delaying the onset of dementia, so maybe we should all form a virtual band?

@ danielquinn
Maybe this post should be moved but a quick wikipedia came up with this intro...
I think deviates of the Marxist doctrine have caused humanity as much pain and suffering as racism, sexism, etc. So, I really cannot understand why anyone would want to impose such a doctrine even if it is in ones own home ?? But then, in our "free" societies we try to respect everyones ideas.

Drivel is subjective , I doubt very much [in terms of biological function and use ] your brain can distinguish between watching on TV a Poliakoff production and Post Man Pat . Personally i'm 91.2% sure listening to classical music will kill me . It is a large and illegitimate jump from "use your brain or lose it" , to some middle class wanky definition of what using your brain actually means in order to gain some sense of superiority and satisfaction . [ for the avoidance of doubt , this does not refer to you , it refers to the current narrative about using your brain to fend of alzhimers ] I'm pretty sure the new scientist would not endorse such cultural snobbery . The brain can and does react differently to different inputs. There are very many studies of brain activities in all sorts of areas. The latest I read takes it into a different area entirely. We/they are only at the beginning of the discoveries Can't see middle class being the driver for any of it and I can't see any cultural snobbery anywhere. Unless you mean what people watch and opinions thereof. I'm going to carry on using my brain as I rather enjoy doing so. What my brain does listening to music I don't know. I will certainly carry on doing that either way

Do you have a point or simply a series of disjointed sentences ? If I was to be charitable your argument seems to be how can I call myself a marxist and instill the principles of Marx in to my family home ,when so called marxist regimes have been responsible for mysery . Well that chukka is like blaming "fire" not the arsonist for burning down your house .

As for the rest You are now seeking to deny the history of this thread to –illegitimately – undermine my argument . So I give you examples of cultural snobbery on this thread from your own keyboard . ___________________ Can believe that, 80% is something though TV *speaks*, there is no involvement They must have replaced it be something worth having/doing Not watching TV doesn't seem obvious but the figures look good Surely some (most ?) I wonder what Sir Jackie would make of this thread ? Seeing as the sale of his formative racing car has inspired such high-brow debate he maybe of a mind to keep it now...

Sir Jackie is about as far away from being a Marxist as it's possible to get. He even gets specially made shirts so that the cuff on his watch arm allows the proletariat more easily to see his Rolex (as a brand ambassador these things matter), and lives in Switzerland as a tax exile.

Much documented evidence (the things that are normally on) Speak with no involvement. There is very little on TV that requires feedback 80% is an incredibly good percentage and if carried out properly (!) cannot be denied. I'd ban Capital Radio if I could. Just from my ears is good enough

There is a story which may not be true so take this as hearsay only. Once upon a time there was a large property and it was bought by certain JS I was told. Planning permission for a knock down and a vast mansion was proposed. Normally this would be refused but this owner was given special dispensation, I believe Monster mansion built Place is sold for a large amount of dough

Just from my ears is good enough I am struggling moving this debate forward given the vague nature of your retorts . different as viewed on brain scans is tautological and meaningless your desire to differrentiate tv from say reading , listening to music etc is absurd . the research is bollocks just read the bbc report .

Ditto
Punters who know the brain far better than any of us believe what they see and there are scans to show different areas lighting up from different inputs
Not me. The report Chris mentioned.
Which research and which BBC report ?

I quite fancy a Rolex. Or a Sinn. Does that make me a bad person? Nope, just someone who will, with pinpoint accuracy, rue the period of time the missus brow-beats you over the severe reduction of funds in your bank account
