Yes it should. It's about incredible vistas rather than sharp detail but I remember it looking superb in the cinema and then again on TV.

It looks great in 3D, especially with 5.1 sound too, Jules.

Dear streaming chums, I am coming round to the idea of having a dedicated router for streaming and am trying to work out the most economical way of doing so. I am pretty sure that I have lots of data available on my phone SIM each month - would it be possible to use this in the 4g router just when I want to listen to music? Any particular spec of router required? I need to try and find something as compact as possible. Am looking at TP Link but no idea what to look for ... www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/3g-4g-router/

I use a TP-Link MR6400 4G router and it's excellent and really easy to use. You just pop the SIM in and it pretty much self-configures.
Be careful with using two wi-fi setups in one house. They should avoid each other's frequencies, but just saying.

Seems to be a no-brainer at 70 quid.
That was the router I was looking at. It means I could then run a 0.5m network cable to the Tinker.
Won't be using it for WiFi.

Won't be using it for WiFi. Yes, you will. How else will you control the Tinker Board?

Not quite. The Tinker wants a cable connection and can pull all its music that way.
The wi-fi connection is only for your controller (tablet or phone) to control Volumio.

Yeah that's what I meant.
What kind of plan do you have for your SIM card? I was looking at 'pre-loaded' data only ...

I have a monthly SIM-only contract, 100GB for £20.

Last year I bought a beautiful looking original Cyrus 1 out of pure nostalgia. Sadly it has remained in its box all this time.
It suddenly dawned on me last night that it has a headphone input and maybe I should try and make use of it. But not sure even that is practical. Would have to get a very compact USB 'pure' DAC. But if I really wanted that facility I would be better off with a little desktop DAC / headphone amp like a Topping. That's an area of tech that has come on so much in recent years.
So think the Cyrus is still grounded.

Surely your 'normal' internet connection is ok and you can plug your Tinker board into that via a cable taken from your existing router? What's your issue where you feel the need to create a completely new home network?

Well I have a very long cable run from hall to my Mac in living room. I then have to unplug that and extend it further to my Tinker for streaming.
If I get a new router it will be hopefully better quality than the Sky router and potentially with less noise. I can then put it on my rack with a 75cm run of network cable to the Tinker. Of course it's a neater solution. Only issue is spending money on data SIM or hassle of taking SIM card out of phone.

Jules, you might try investigating routers that support "USB tethering," which might enable you to connect your phone to the router via a USB lead, thereby avoiding either removing the sim or paying for a second one.
Ignore lash-ups that use your phone's "hotspot" capability, it not only kills your battery but in some cases actually shortens the phone's life, so I've read.
