That Belden 19364 mains cable is excellent, even without having to sell your soul in a dark arts satanic ceremony. It successfully replaced any number of way more expensive items of esoterica.

A very cold solid state RCA / XLR buffer has arrived chez moi today.
Will be interesting to see how it performs and whether it allows me to take a preamp out of the equation, controlling volume direct from DAC.

Thanks John.
Before trying this and my other new bits and pieces out I must migrate everything to my new smaller rack, made by Something Solid. Will post pics once all done.

Yes, I hope it works for you too, Jules.
One word of warning: always make sure you turn on the power amp last and turn it off first. If you, say, turn off your DAC or buffer it may put a large fully amplified jolt through the system as everything runs at full line level, the DAC being the volume control. So far, I have kept that in mind!

Yes I had that habit drilled into me some time ago, it's good advice!

Here’s my new rack - a Something Solid 'XR' I believe … I’m well pleased with it - love the industrial looks and it’s really well made from solid bar steel; very heavy, totally rigid and secure. Here’s a pic to show how the shelving works - you tighten up these cord tensioners and then the wooden shelves sit on top of them. I now have the lovely task of de-rigging the old rack and setting everything up again …

Impressive, looking forward to your views on any sonic differences. ... I've never really taken racks seriously, and have often wondered if I should.

It's always good to re-set all your equipment, guide the cabling etc. You nearly always end up with a better layout.

So today I have tested a new set up chez moi. Here’s how it works -
Tinker S > Oehlbach reclocker > D70 XLR out > new Chinese solid state buffer XLR out > Audio Synthesis power > Sonus Faber
Volume is being controlled by the D70 and am using Mogami 2549 cables.
Well the first bit of good news is it all works smoothly! Sadly only time for a quick listen today but one thing is for sure - this set up is so much better than going XLR from the D70 direct to power amp; the buffer is doing its thang, whatever that is …
I now have a number of ‘tweaks’ / cables etc that I can try with this set up and see if I can squeeze some extra performance from it.
This recent Ozzy track was sounding monstrously good - great system work out …
… and for something completely different.

Welcome to the buffer club, it's amazing what a bit of serious welly does to the output of a DAC, isn't it?
