Well it’s already a different beast after an hour full system warm-up. Had fun cranking these puppies …

Good start, Jules. Try to leave the power on it to give it a good burn-in.

So I now find myself with a bit of a backlog of setting up and testing! short-term plans - - get Topping D70 DAC fully set up - get a rack to house all the digital gear - test Audience speaker cable - test Oyaide rca interconnects medium-term plans - - decide on supercap psu for the digione - new class D power amps for the digital system - finalise rca interconnects - finalise speaker cable

I have re-organised the rack today to be able to take the digital system and the D70 will be going in tomorrow.

So I have now moved my digital gear onto the big rack. Tape player boxed up and tuna up for sale. I haven't touched the analogue gear since getting the digione, but not quite ready to sell them or the record collection.

Jules
Question, have you always had you equipment on the rack in the picture and always granite underneath the components?

Hi Tony, I've always used that rack for my analogue gear and have often used granite for a bit of extra isolation ... whether it does anything beyond look nice I don't know ...

It might be worth using something to dampen as both glass and slate can ring.
When I next visit I could bring a bit of gear to try under the DAC just to see what makes a difference if any difference at all

Anyone able to tell me what this speaker cable is? I bought it a while ago but can't remember who from. There is no marking at all on the beige cover. There seems to be some kind of plastic strip in between the conductors as you can see in this pic.

Rings no bells here
Have you had a very close look in sunlight ?
I discovered after many months my 'Naim NACA5' was Exposure Electronics cable as the embossing was very hard to see

A thought has just occurred to me at 12.30am.
What is the point in me using my RVC when the new DAC has remote control volume, and can go straight to the power amps? If I had an active pre that would of course be a different matter ...

The point is to try it both ways and see.
My DAC has direct volume control and I tried it straight to my power amp. The resulting sound was too bright and lacked weight. Through the preamp with the DAC set at full output (bypass) it sounds much fuller with greater weight.

I use the Topping volume control and it works well in my system. I have quite sensitive speakers so adding extra gain means it is very hard to control volume levels It certainly worth trying Jules
