Ta for the heads up. There was an update for the Spotty app in LMS, Spotify connect works again.
Can't see why folks would want to use it, coz the Spotify app is an appalling mess. There's nowt so queer as folk, as they say around these parts ..... This is what my interface looks like. It clean to look at, the search facility is wonderful (and much quicker than the PC app), and on top of that, it's a joy to use.

Use the queue trick, John. Empty the queue, add tracks to it and play.

OK, I have manually upgraded the Spotify connect plugin as detailed in the github link above. Mine now shows 0.8.5.
The install went as per the instructions... basically delete old plugin via the WebUI, install new one via SSH as per the instructions, tweek new plugin via WebUI
After 10 mins of testing, I can confirm that it works at least as well as before and has indeed *probably* fixed the next track / stuck on the current track bug.
I will either edit this reply or add a new one, after more extensive testing to confirm or deny the fix
Cheers
Sean

I've been acquainting myself with the Volumio interface too. Creating playlists etc.
I guess they only live as long as the SD card though?

I thought they lived through the MyVolumio account?
I only create playlists on Spotify.

I thought they lived through the MyVolumio account? I only create playlists on Spotify. That would be good as they are a backup if Spotify can't find Volumio as a device..

Have you tried applying the playlists fix (modified index.js) and using Spotify from within Volumio?

I will either edit this reply or add a new one, after more extensive testing to confirm or deny the fix Cheers Sean Words of warning.... - I am experiencing some issues related to the connection between the spotify client on a windows PC and the spotify connect process on the Pi dropping... This maybe unrelated, due to a few networking issues at home, and requires further investigation
- There appears to be changes in the area of spotify default volume.... and it some cases it defaults to zero which then causes me to misinterpret it as nothing working at all!!!!
On the plus side, the "next track / stuck on current track" bug does seem to be fixed
I will investigate more and report back
Cheers

I made a new SD card and it was quick to get things up and running. Having done it all before and written it down in my terms always helps..
I have not really been following things that closely, Githead etc..
Installed the Spotify plugin and Spotify connect too. Oh it's still 0.7.4 OTA. Silly me, I thought that would be the first place they'd apply an annoying bug fix..
So I'll have to try Git etc..
At least Spotify app can see Volumio again and there's the queue method.. and I'm on the latest Volumio.
UPDATE: Oh and by the way, playlists are there if you login..

Did the 0.8.5 update as instructed on Githead and it all seemed to work fine, can see the plugin of that version and can activate and change the settings. Can't see Volumio as a device using any of my Spotify setups - Phone / laptop app etc. A restart of Volumio fixed it... Now to see if it 0.8.5 works..

Volumio is there and says connecting for a long while but Spotify doesn't connect and goes back to devices available.. Sometimes Volumio is there still, sometimes not. If it's gone then a restart is the only way to see it again but still won't connect. I will make a new SD card without the 0.7.4 OTA install and try the Githead procedure a fresh. A bit tedious all this, thanks Spotify! But good when it works

I think part of the problem is that Spotify wants to stop 3rd party software. I also understand even for those manufacturers that pay for the privilege they do not inform them and often have similar issues with Spotify with regards to their latest upgrade. I think this is a shame a lot of us have found out how good Spotify can be if people pay attention to jitter and noise. We all paying premium but I can see this battle going on for a long time.

This is 3rd party SW that enables us to enjoy their streaming service more, like it more, be more loyal..
It's not trying to cut Spotify out or complete in this instance.
We will of course migrate to the service that works best, even if it's more expensive, so they may lose some of us with a strategy like that.
Drop in the ocean to them though.

I find both Spotify and Qobuz could do more to please and, as a result, increase their traffic.
Spotify have this annoying idea that any 3rd party using Spotify Connect should be controlled by frigging with their API at regular intervals.
Qobuz do little to improve their Qobuz Connect, which simply doesn't work for me, and the Windows client and general searching is irritating.
As a result, I do most of my playing/searching from within Volumio now.
