I can't see any other reason for doing it, other than to be dicks.

I just had the difference between full fat FLAC files and Spotify's version thereof rammed home tonite, listening to Roman Clarke's most recent single - I bought the track from Bandcamp after hearing it on Spotify. The Spotify version sounds very good. The Bandcamp lossless file gives the Spotify version a very firm kick into the weeds. In isolation the Spotify sourced track sounds very, very good. It's only when you play the lossless file that you realise just what it is the Spotify track is missing. Spotify gives a very good facsimile of whatever it is you're playing.
Copied from another thread. I fundamentally disagree. I was playing several songs from Spotify last night, and the vividness of people making real music was incredible. A facsimile could never give true enjoyment like this, the palpable feeling of the music being there in your room. For me, lossless Qobuz 16/44 is largely comparable with Spotify. There are few, if any, differences meaning that the Ogg format is doing a fine job of compression. It normally takes 24/44 or one of the higher resolutions to start pulling away, 24/96 sounding very good indeed with certain albums. What John and I have discovered, over and over again, is that Spotify needs a good transport, excellent clocking and a great DAC to sound that good. I don't believe that many people have ever heard what it is truly capable of.

You missed the bit about resampling it into something that it isn't in the first place.

Was still plagued by a song stuck in the queue, could not clear it and it would always play that song first no matter what track I selected. I found could add other songs to the queue and then skip to then, but not just jump to a track in any playlist, it would always play that song in the queue.
The one song would change from time to time randomly it seems, depending on what I'd searched and played..
Logout / in no help. Close / open app no help.
It's a common problem if googled.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Android app fixed it!
It might come back if I search and play, we'll see..
Nope, it's still the same. This is only a recent problem for me.. can't see right now how to fix it..
After some hair tearing, selecting the notification icon and opening Spotify (seemingly again), the view that opens / overlays behaves as you'd expect and any track from any playlist will play, no queue issue. How strange!

Have you stopped doing all the resampling stuff using SOX? Oh yes, completely. I don't resample anything now and certainly not streams.

No DSP. The LKS has selectable reconstruction filters and I am using Slow Minimum Phase. The differences between them are very small.

The spec for your DAC mentions DSD on all inputs, which suggests some DSP shananigans (ie transcoding on the fly) taking place. DSD has never been ratified for working over S/PDIF.

I’m having a problem with the Spotify desktop app and Volumio, ever since the Spotify plugin for Volumio2 was updated four days ago.
I cannot change the track anymore whilst the app is connected to Volumio. If I click play on a new track it simply restarts the track currently loaded. I have to go back to ‘local’ spotify on my mac, change the track then switch to volumio whilst the track is running.
Anyone else having the same issue or can offer advice on a solution?

Just noticed it tonight, Jules. It's a bit of a pain but I worked around it by adding the track to the queue and then clicking 'next track'. It then plays.
I'll have a look at the Volumio support forum to see if it's been picked up yet.

...yes, it's been picked up as a bug. No solution as yet.
I've added a bug report. It's the Spotify client that has been updated and broken things.

There's been an issue mentioned on the Squeezebox forum. It's an issue with Spotify connect, and it's down to a delivery change by Spotify themselves.
There doesn't appear to be an issue operating Spotify via the LMS "Spotty" app, which is the way I prefer to do things. I very much dislike the computer interface for Spotify.
Edit - the issue is just with Spotify connect. Using the LMS web interface everything works normally.
