Vaughan Williams 6th. Very dark symphony. I particularly like the version of The Lark Ascending paired with this one.

Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition, Maazel, Cleveland Orch, Telarc
Here's my tribute, an early Telarc digital recording on vinyl and surprisingly rich sounding with superb brass, great timing and the usual Telarc bass.

More Lalo -- and not a Symphonie Espagnol in sight! Really good in a passionate/romantic vein!

Hardly played any classical for awhile now, mostly because my collection is archived in boxes and I have yet to rip it to FLAC, this coupled with not owning a CD player amymore makes it tricky! I aim to remedy this in the near future

Well....I was playing this My wife came in and asked me why I was shouting at the hi-fi It went something like "for gawds sake, if I wanted funeral music etc etc...." I was nodding off with the solo stuff but the Trio for Violin, Cello and Guitar had me tearing my hair out (that took some doing, I have to look very carefully indeed). I hadn't played this for ages so thought I'd give it a go. Now I know why I haven't played it for ages. What was that about just playing the notes? Good grief. I'm not surprised some people are put off classical music if this is what they have listened to. Fortunately, help was at hand for the Trio. Brilliant, lively, and just plain musical.

Yeah right! ... of course Richard ... you know what; I like blaming technology for all my solecisms too. You don't have to make excuses - what two consenting adults do in their own home when they have vitality is no concern of mine or anyone else. Best Wishes from Andrei PS they say Ginseng helps too.

No pics but Krebbers again. Got this from YouTube. 5 concerti by Vivaldi - haven't sorted out which ones yet as they are not identified. Absolutely marvellous playing. I really like this guy. But..... whilst the sound is terrific (1936 recording) there is some 'orrible noise which intrudes on the quiet passages. On the original recording though, the gaps are dead silent. Its hum not rumble. Shame, this would be top notch otherwise. Still the performance comes through and I can almost ignore the noise....almost

I loved the performances as I said and I know all the concerti......the playing seemed very familiar somehow and dead to the same speed I'm used to. This is because I already have the LP . My copy is completely hum and rumble free so it was down to whoever recorded it. They must have done each track separately. It was mislabelled on YouTube. And it isn't Krebbers 'tis late on a Sunday evening here in France. I'm off to bed. I obviously need the sleep
