Looks interesting! - I've just ordered a copy from Amazon. Ah yes Jerry. you were the original voice of light, not Andrei. I hope you like it. James' work is mostly spiritual, although I know he has ambitions for an Opera (he has an encyclopaedic knowledge, a permenant desk at the Royal Opera House (he is responsible for their DVD catalogue). Band of White Gold is so obscure I may have one of the only existing recordings of it . His other well known works included Analiese (about Anne Frank) and my favourite, the "Son of Man" mass - which is unusual in featuring choir and soprano saxaphone. Let me know what you think.

Stravinski - The rite of spring. Karajan and the Berlin Phil. Absolutely bloody terrifying on the Teufels. So intense and brooding and the bass hits the guts hard enough to intensify the nervousness. Music to freak out to.

Weird cover - 2 piano trios - and the music's quite weird, too! CD.

The Bach double violin (again). My dad will be down on Saturday. It's a joint 80th birthday party for him and mum (80). It's his record. He cried last time I played it to him. He is not going to believe this

Talk of The Rite of Spring allowed me to try my different versions. I've settled on this one...
Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring, Bernstein, Israel PO, DG

...because it is very in-your-face, recorded in a dry acoustic, and is fantastically dynamic and detailed. Just what the music demands, in my opinion.

WOW! I was smitten from the first bar of music - the entry of the soprano sax just turned me to ecstatic mush! I just love the sound! What a fantastic album - instantly it has become one of my favourites, thanks so much for the reccie, pinkie.
I've ordered Whitbourn's 'Luminosity' album on Naxos -- no saxophone, sadly, but I'm still looking forward to it!

Bach English suites played by Huguette Dreyfus. Musical perfection.

An excellent Beethoven Eroica symphony from pianist turned conductor Stephen Kovacevich

Quite slow (51 minutes) but sturdy and fluidly paced with nicely highlighted orchestral detail. Decent sq, too.
It's a 'live' recording and the audience is suitably and understandably very enthusiastic at the end!
CD bought from a charity shop for a £ or so.

An excellent compilation album of tracks from the Hyperion label's CDs. A great way to introduce you to Handel's wonderful baroque music - bright & lively, rhythmic & tuneful - and a just dandy general listen for Handel lovers, too!

This is a quite superb recording and performance of the Tchaikovsky violin ... just love the phrasing, precision and tone from Campoli.

Moving onto the Capriccio Espagnol in tribute to Lorin Maazel ... Absolutely scintillating in every way.
