Here's one for you julesd68 - a " different" Mahler 10. This one is orchestrated (and played on this recording) by Rudolf Barshai, as opposed to the usually heard Deryck Cooke version. There are others too. Your mate, David Hurwitz, had this to say about it:

Excellent, thanks for that Paul, it looks well worth investigating - I've added it to my Mahler 10 playlist.

Christina Pluhar - All' Improvviso I can't help it, I just love this album. The music is very alluring and, for a standard res recording, its sound is exceptional. open.qobuz.com/track/128222641

Here's an excellent concept for an album.
Norwegian violinist Ragnhild Hemsing plays the first three works including the Bruch on a standard violin and then plays the Hardanger Fiddle for the final work which is certainly worth your attention for its highly evocative music, so skilfully played on this instrument which I had never heard of.

Gosh, that does sound different! Very short neck on that instrument.
No, I'd never heard of it either.

Sadly, I had heard of it before, I say sadly, because...well ...the second video clip will explain it.

Heard my son playing this today and like it a lot, an Etude by Szymanowski.

One is a lovely performance and the other the all-time greatest performance (in my opinion).

I've got tickets for Sir Mark Elder's farewell performance with the Halle next year; it's Mahler 5 and am sure it will be an emotional farewell.

Great orchestra when on top form.
