One of this month's freebies from Naxos. I'm not a huge fan of Rachmaninov, but this is good, and not so "strident" as some of his piano music.

Great choice Paul, I absolutely love that trio - it has a moving, plaintive quality about it ...

Great lineup on that Poulenc. Great performances on both the Gloria and Organ Concerto, too.

Joseph-Nicolas-Pancrace Royer. What a name and what a fantastic discovery! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph-Nicolas-Pancrace_RoyerThe other day I heard my son playing some completely unfamiliar Baroque on the piano and my interest was immediately piqued by the quality of the composition. So he told me it was Royer and the first thing I did was to find a good recording of his harpsichord works ... ... Fasten your seat belts for La Marche Des Scythes, a properly virtuosic work out. Royer was music director of the 'chambre du roi' so was certainly no slouch...

This is so beautiful and strangely calming from Lavinia Meijer. According to Spotify, written by Hania Rani. Never heard anything quite like it ...

Hania Rani is rather wonderful. You will have seen me bandy her name around, she is in the Nils Frahm camp of electronica but a true original composer.

Mahler Symphony No 10, Dausgaard, Seattle SO (Live) After last night's astounding concert, I needed to listen again and chose this live performance of the Deryck Cooke III performing version. Nothing will recapture what Jules and I heard (more about that later), but the need is great right now. open.qobuz.com/track/32402381

I was watching Dave H on the 10th earlier.
Among a few others he recommends -
Dausgaard Gielen Chailly
Top marks go to Sanderling.

Exquisite Baroque violin as ever from Chouchane Siranossian with incredibly fresh and zestful orchestral performances on this new release.
