Sadly it has never been available on Spotify as far as I can see ...

That's a shame, Jules, as it's a rather unique orchestration by Fruhbeck de Burgos, the conductor.

Yes it's a great recording - I remember hearing the vinyl at your old place!

I've been doing a small survey of recordings of Beethoven's Pathetique Piano Sonata so I'm more familiar with it whilst my son is learning it.
For a contemporary recording on a modern instrument I find Igor Levit entirely satisfying. However as an alternative I very much like Ronald Brautigam on BIS - a masterful performance on a period pianoforte which of course will give you a very distinctive tone.

hey Alan, I have just added that Mahler album to my Spoti library but haven't listened to it yet - what do you think of it?

Wow - you can hear how much Bjork's new collab owes to classical music, I think it's a fascinating track. There's an almost formal arrangement of six bass clarinets that ground the track with a folk drum rhythm backing and Bjork's vocals, then it goes into some kind of hybrid apocalyptic meltdown ...

Is it a good performance, Jules?
I love the Barenboim Shaw recording of the Requiem.

It's not a work I'm hugely familiar with. Highly atmospheric for sure and very well played; it is potent. Not 100% sold on the female soloists yet. I think it's the mezzo that doesn't quite work for me, would need to listen to some other recordings and compare.

Apologies - it was the Shaw recording I was thinking of. Try this one...

I'll try that. The Barenboim you mentioned has its plaudits too.
