Bach - The Musical Offering I usually prefer this on organ but it's a gorgeous performance of Ricercar. The opening harpsichord track is so beautiful, I was expecting great things but I couldn't get on with it at all when the other instruments enter. They just don't sound that interested to me, it's curiously flat as a performance.

Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring I thought I'd try the highly rated Markevitch 1959 recording in fabulous 24/192 on Qobuz. What a terrific analogue recording - not up to modern standards but turn the excitement level to 10. open.qobuz.com/track/86915716

I'm not surprised it's a good 'un - Markevich is outstanding in the Russian repertoire.
What I found most astounding about his Tchaikovsky symphony cycle with the LSO is how he made the LSO sound completely Russian in style, it's remarkable.

There is a piano progression on this that is driving me crazy - you'll probably know it when you hear it - because I'm certain it's been " borrowed," for something else. It comes in a 0:23, and is repeated at 1:44. It appears at around the 0:30 and 1:59 in this version but is played by the strings. Cracvked it: Renaissance - Northern Lights from 0:58 and 2:11 I can sleep tonight.

A very fine performance of my favourite piece of music.
This should give your woofers a workout.

The always estimable Ms Akiko Suwanai playing solo Bach Sonatas and Partitas.
Such a noble and soulful performer, there's something about her phrasing I always enjoy.

Another fine young string soloist I'd not heard of before. Violin this time. Janet Sung. Quite an adventurous programme.

She's super talented of course, the birdsong is remarkable.
I note she only learnt for two years before playing with an orchestra. Absolutely insane!!

And now Ms Suwanai tearing up the Bruch with full blooded support from Sir Neville.
It's an ungodly scandal we don't see this lady in the UK concert halls.

It sounds very French. Not a long way from Poulenc.
