Strauss Violin Concerto - never listened to this before but it's solid and satisfying romantic fare!
On the basis of this recording I think it deserves more of a chance in the concert halls by those who could help elevate its lowly status.
Really committed and lyrical performance by Arabella Steinbacher who gets every last drop of quality out of the work and puts forward a compelling case for it to be let back into the community. Sterling support from WDR Symphony Cologne.

Hey, you're not wrong, Jules. That's rather good, isn't it. In fact, I enjoyed the whole album.

Hey, you're not wrong, Jules. That's rather good, isn't it. In fact, I enjoyed the whole album. I enjoyed the rest of it too, a most satisfying album. Some of the Lieder melodies are quite glorious of course. Apparently the solist was named Arabella due to Strauss!

Some minimalist-ish chill out music from Roger and Brian Eno. Mixing Colours. I like this - John might, too.

Why on earth has Hilary Hahn recorded this?
I don't understand the appeal at all.
Apparently it's "the composer's creative response to a time of global isolation"
Yikes ...

Very nice, too. A bit out of character, though, as it doesn't sound like his tone poems or later works.

Three download choices dropped into my inbox, from NAXOS, today. I played track one on this and there was no need for further delibertation about which to download.
Interestingly, Antoni Wit was one of the two conductors cited by David Hurwitz as turning out the two best Mahler 8ths

I've no time for Mahler 8, but Wit's Mahler 9 is one of my favourites. Unfortunately the recording is marred by the end of movements being prematurely cut off.

I have to say, the whole of that Brahms album is superb, and I've only listened to it on the computer system so far. I need to run it through Mptag, and upload it to my NAS so I can play it on my much better second system, via Volumio.
I don't remember listening to anything other than Brahms' The German Requiem among his choral works, and now I'm wondering why. Full marks, and many thanks, NAXOS. I love their free albums; I don't download them all, but every so often they come up with a winner, like this.

Brahms' A German Requiem is the only piece of his I truly adore.

Now on my 3rd hearing of this album in the last couple of days. Wow. Vasks - oboe concerto and other orchestral works.

Lovers of English pastoral chamber music a la RVW will likely take kindly to this album of clarinet chamber music by Ruth Gipps. Totally yummy.

Brahms - A German Requiem, Levine, BSO This is a superb live performance and the deep organ pedals just add the icing to the best streaming version I've yet heard. In 24/88. open.qobuz.com/track/26254262
