I'd just love to be able to play this on the system but it will have to be headphones - it had to be good with the talent in the ensemble. Decca aren't the most imaginative label so doubt they wanted to push the boat out too far with this one! I suppose we should be grateful.

Inspired by Benedetti's Baroque, onto her dominating and aggressive view of the Elgar violin concerto.
I enjoy this as a valid alternative to the usual pallid and over sentimental (by comparison) performances. I've seen this recording dismissed out of hand in some reviews, usually American, who often like to have a dig at anything British that gets good reviews in the British press. There are a lot of Anglophobe reviewers out there!

I was reading a review of "Baroque" and this is an album that was mentioned in comparison featuring Carmignola playing Viv, Locatelli and Tartini. I expect it to have a less intense flavour than NB.

Yes, you're right. Less intense (and more subtle) playing compared to NB who comes over as rather full-bore, set the volume at 11 in comparison.
NB has the less interesting programme as well for me. I do like Tartini's violin concerti.

I'm happy to have both for different moods!
I love Tartini also.
Do you know this recording?
Was a great discovery for me last year.

4h6m of Vivaldi's complete cello concertos to be had here. About 2h in and still interestingly varied.
Ofra Harnoy.

Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique I was playing this for a friend on Sunday and then again last night. It's a very realistic recording and great performance. open.qobuz.com/track/5164730

Tedious overblown imperialistic nonsense.
