Mozart Sinfonia Concertante k. 364.
I think if I was only allowed one composer it would be Mozart.

An excellent performance of Beethoven 7th symphony.
Pierre Monteux conducts the NBC SO in New York, in a live radio broadcast (I guess) from the mid 1950s. Glorious mono. Somewhat dodgy sound. Soon forgotten as the music sweeps you away!

A delightfully autumnal set of mostly gentle orchestral tone poems by Australian composer Mark John Mcencroe.
The album cover image says it all.

I'm playing this by Harry Christophers and The Sixtee, but I couldn't see that on Spotify.

Oh dear, I thought I had found some Mozart I liked but I quickly lost interest in this frippery ...

Yes, that album's drab (mainly blame the performers). But not among Mozart's great works imo. Take my advice as a Mozart fanboy, not just a random punt. See the Favourite Composer thread and the Mozart Spotify link from yesterday on this thread - if the slow movement from the Sinfonia Concertante doesn't move you then you may as well give up.

And, one of my all time favourites, the k.80 string quartet #1 as performed on this album.
And this utter perfection of a wind serenade.
As a ballet fanboy I think you'll enjoy this Great c minor Mass. (It's interspersed with brief modern music pieces).
And this series of piano sonatas by Jeno Jando on Naxos with distinctive bird art.
Mozart can come across as quite simple, but actually it's a real bastard to perform well. Most recordings don't pass muster imo.

And as an Argerich fanboy, take a look at this live performance video of piano concerto #20.
Actually, that doesn't capture Argerich at her best. There's a totally stunning Teldec CD of this work with Argerich, Jorg Faerber conducting, but sadly not available on Spotify.

This is a recommended digital download in Augusts HiFi news, with 95% for SQ, resolution is at 24/96kHz on Qobuz. I am rather enjoying it is my first hearing of Mahler’s 4th Symphony, it feels a bit lighter and more joyful than the later ones. It was recorded during the Covid lockdown in the Concert hall with the orchestra 2m spaced and an additional 2 m added to the stage to do so. I am also very pleased with how things are sounding with the Audiolab as DAC from the MacBook with the Krell. open.qobuz.com/album/blmprfka7d2bb

George Oakley. Presumably a contemporary American composer. This is really good - well, OK, I could manage without the 4 songs although the mezzo-soprano has a very nice voice. But the piano works, cello sonata and piece for clarinet and piano made an immediate and very positive impression.

Mahler 6th,Vanska, Minnesota, BIS. 2018
Quite a cerebral account, very lucid and articulate, and quite exciting at times and with enough heart to make it a properly moving Mahler experience. Oh my goodness, the 2nd mvt. Gorgeous. I might wish it just a tad slower, but this is wonderful.
Superb sound quality throughout.
I'm going to have to live with this one for a while to fully appreciate it.
Much looking forward to Vanska's Mahler 3rd.

Did you ever listen to Tennstedt's 6th, Jerry? I've not heard the EMI recording, but this LPO live at the Albert Hall from about the same time is quite a shattering experience!

I heard him perform both the 2nd and 6th at different concerts. Shattering is a good description of his conducting style. A superb Mahlerian.

There's an enjoyable and fun rehash of Vivaldi featuring the double trumpet concerto on this album (tracks 7-9) by contemporary composer Enjott Schneider. The Bach rehash (tracks 1-3) with oboe soloist is also good.

Nicola Benedetti's latest album, as prompted by Jules.
Good recording, very nicely played and suitably lively. Kudos for selecting some less well known Vivaldi violin concertos, but I think the programme could have been more imaginative and interesting with a more varied selection of baroque composers. And 52 minutes is decidedly stingy for disc buyers.
I'll be looking out for the next Benedetti Baroque Orchestra recording with interest and a hope for something more adventurous in the way of material.
