... and I've just found a Nelsons 5th to add to the collection. That will please Jerry I'm sure!

I'll give it a listen, Jules. But I'm not over hopeful!
I do find myself baffled by Nelsons' popularity.

Enjoying this set of Beethoven symphonies by Jochum and the Concertgebeouw. Taut, lively and melodic. Quite an old set but I find the sound very listenable.
1, 2, 4 and now starting 7 so far.

Hmm. I might have to rescind my views on Osmo Vanska. Having hated his Sibelius symphony cycle on BIS with the Lahti SO, it recently came to my attention that he has subsequently issued another Sibelius cycle, still on BIS, but with the Minnesota SO.
I can understand why he wanted another crack at it. Much more successful this time. Have listened to 6, 7 and 4 so far. Very impressed.

Vanska again.
I'm definitely noticing a trend.
His almost universally praised Beethoven cycle has been playing chez Jerry. Oh dear. I think most people have turned into emotionless androids. Only one Amazon buyer review hears it the way I do, and concludes "... Or stick with the Vänskä set if you like your Beethoven lean, sterile and devoid of emotion."
Anyway, it's my observation so far that sometime around 2010 Vanska had some sort of musical epiphany. Prior to that his recordings are as emotionless as a stunned mackerel, but after that they have real depth of feeling and subtle dynamic nuance.
The Lahti Sibelius was mid 1990s,the Beethoven symphonies mid naughties.
Recommended by me are his Minnesota recordings of Mahler 10, Sibelius symphonies, and his album of Mozart piano concerto 24 and Beethoven 3rd piano concertos. All from the later 2010s.
Next up is his 2010 Bruckner 4th. I wonder which side of Vanska's purported musical epiphany it will lie on.

Bruckner 4, Vanska Minnesota. 2010.
Definitely on this side of the Great Divide. A fine performance, the Andante powerful and nicely paced, although the finale couldn't quite hold my attention. He's not in Jochum, Bohm or Wand's class when it comes to Bruckner. But pretty good. Good sound quality.

When I am not sure what to listen to classically then I seem to always pop this on, some lovely pieces and a beautiful performance in Salisbury Cathedral, well worth looking out, there a few CD copies on Discogs for not too much, I found it available to stream. Qobuz HiRes

Yum, lots of solo lute music!
My favourite is probably the Naxos series with Robert Barto.
