Gosh, this Bruckner 5 hits the spot. Perfect pacing (not too fast), wonderfully judged dynamic contrasts, great sound quality.

From Hilary Hahn's forthcoming album 'Paris', here she is tearing up the second movement of Prokofiev 1.
Fab-u-lous.

That's the best thing to do with Prokofiev - tear it up.

LOL - I’m not his biggest fan either, but this is good, really good!

Just now listened. Astonishing virtuousity, but I can't say I want to listen to it again.

Yes she really is special - if I could choose to see one artist perform live this year it would most likely be her.

That's the best thing to do with Prokofiev - tear it up. But, but... Romeo and Juliet. Lieutenant Kije. The Love of Three Oranges. Ivan the Terrible.

His Violin Sonata No.1 in F minor, Op.80, is well worth a listen too.

His string quartets are well worth an occasional airing as well.
But his symphonies, concertos, piano sonatas. Irritatingly pointless imo.

after a brief but nonetheless too long detour into this month's non classical album of the month here is some fascinating string quartet music from Kazakhstan

Wow, more contemporary yummy gorgeousness from Latvia. Kind of a cross between Arvo Part and Peteris Vasks.

I've not been able to get into Reich's music before but the visuals make all the difference. Music for 18 Instruments.

Bruckner - tamed, controlled, subdued. As you might have perhaps guessed by now, I am not Nelsons' leading fanboy.

Can’t comment just yet Jerry - got it saved and will compare it with the Barenboim cycle you like. I’ve also got the Jochum cycle and a few Jansons to listen to … Too much really!

I like Prokofiev's chamber music soooooooo much more than his symphonies and concertos. The violin sonatas are actually rather good!
