Is this 'classical music'? Not by my definition but it may be by others. I don't really care what box it goes in, but I am posting it here as it's more likely to be appreciated by the denizens of these waters than the other 'playing right now' strand. Shida Shahabi - 'Homes' I think it's rather beautiful. A Swedish-Iranian pianist playing a muted prepared piano, sometimes sparingly accompanied by a little subtle synth playing to colour it all and add atmosphere along with some sparingly effective use of delays. I suppose the pieces might be described as etudes - no buffers here either (or cellos)! I finally got around to listening to this, and I like it. It reminds me a bit of this:

Glad that a couple of people enjoyed it. Using the same rational as above, I am posting this next one here too.
Richard J. Birkin - 'The Last Outpost of Empire (Music for a Lonely Isle) Rather unusually, this short album (ep?) is the soundtrack for a podcast of stories about visitors to the island of Rockall, of which there are only a handful on the planet.

Thanks Jerry! Will check these out. I think I listened to some Laurence Crane years ago, and liked it. Aside, I know his brother, Tim.

a stunning rendition of the violin part in RVW's Lark Ascending by Jennifer Pike - the transcription of the orchestral part for chamber chorus is also fascinating

Bax is a funny one. Liked his Tintagel but couldn't get into his other music.

Bax is a funny one. Liked his Tintagel but couldn't get into his other music. Yes, he's been a slow grower for me. Play the first 3+ minutes of his 1st symphony a few times and see if it starts to convince you and makes you want to hear more. It repays being played loudly! open.qobuz.com/album/0095115112229

Another delightful freebie from NAXOS. Anyone who isn't signed up for their newsletter(s) and so isn't receiving one or two free albums a month from NAXOS is really missing a trick i.m.h.o.
