this is a very fine and exciting Tchaik 5th under the baton of Malcolm Sargent, recorded by Everest whose early stereo sound was never less than bold and explicit

try this, as well, an astonishingly vivid recording [and performance] of Schelomo actually, this is late CBS mono, still vivid, though

Grigori Frid - apparently according to a Fanfare review a major Soviet era composer. Never heard of him. But this viola music is very Shostakovich-like. Very good!
