There's an awful lot I love about the BBC (radio and Natural History), but increasingly there's a lot I don't like as well - I don't suppose I can complain however, as I've not paid a licence fee since August 2013 (I don't have a TV either ). I didn't approve of this at the time and now it's costing them dearly, will they ever learn? Total cost is over a million in compensation, that's really not good.
Modern news media is a big chunk of why I ditched my TV in the first place . . . oh and adverts, life without them is rather good.

Speaking as a license-payer I'm probably even more outraged then you, Tim. As far as I know, they're still considering appealing the verdict.
As someone remarked, there is a difference between "in the public interest" and "what interests the public" and only one of those would be any sort of an excuse for their actions.

I've said it before but the BBC's standards of news journalism is now so shocking that I automatically disbelieve them unless I can triangulate with a more trusted source like Reuters.
Poor writing, poor fact checking, tendency to sensationalise, too much asking the man in the street what he thinks.

BBC 1 & 2 lost the plot years ago. Apart from Ken Bruce all the other shows are merely there so personalities can be wheeled in in order to plug their latest show/book/tv programme/ record/ gig or whatever and with the gender issues cropping up, all they want to do is tick boxes on equality issues. Was listening to Simon Mayo a few weeks back and i see Jo Whiley is co-presenting alongside him in order to up the number of female broadcasters on air during the day. Well all I can say is what a pile of S"$%. Mayo sounded truly p*ssed off, wondering what he'd done wrong to be saddled with such a poor presenter, everything was disjointed and there was no chemistry whatsoever. I am now an official EX Radio2 listener and don't get me started on commercial radio..... Jeez those inane moronic adverts that are repeated every 15 mins....... KILL ME NOW

Yes, with the Cliff Richard debacle, the BBC news departments officially joined the gutter press. They really did. Totally disgusting behaviour.
The license payers shouldn't be having to fork out, the BBC fat cats' wallets should be emptying.

Resign!! Blimey, Jerry, that's a bit harsh. I only report the news, unlike the BBC I don't make it.

Hmm, 3 hours now and no other posts on the forum at all.
I think people have just walked away, disgusted at your refusal to resign, Paul.

I'm taking the Trump approach.
Whatever you've alleged is fake news. Whatever you're going to say will be fake news. I have pardoned myself although I've done nothing wrong. I reserve the right to crawl out of any situation by claiming that I said the opposite of what I meant. I have the best words and I am a very stable genius. Whatever is wrong, Obama did it, and crooked Hilary helped. I wasn't even there, I was playing golf...which is the only statement I've made that's remotely believable.

They haven't done a lot of that for a long time.
The way they pursued Cliff was a total disgrace, and heads and big pension rights should be forfeit. What happened to the premise of being innocent until proven guilty, and more to the point, what happened to simply reporting the day's news in an unbiased fashion? The BBC are wholly complicit in this shameful episode, and it needs severe sanctions to make sure such a thing cannot occur again.

Couldn't agree more Chris, but jack shit will happen and no-one will be held accountable.
It's refreshing to see it's not just me that disapproves of the way they have sold out their core values over the years.
I also find it very distasteful the way it's assumed you are evading the licence fee if you choose to not have a TV and have to prove you are innocent - that's just plain wrong. Their whole business model is archaic and needs to change, they also need to be much more accountable for their 5 billion pound or so operating budget, salaries especially.
Oh, I think Paul should stay though

The way that the BBC handle a lot of things is bad, but this is arguably unforgivable.

I heard yesterday that so far, including payments levied in the current court verdicts, this debacle had cost the BBC (us, that is) around £1.5 million, and that that figure is expected to rise.

Astonishing. Then they go and close TV channels and radio stations, the kind of services that they are paid to provide.

None of these comments are convincing me I should resume paying their licence fee. Having said that, I did miss then entire Royal Wedding by not having a TV, which has left a hole in my life I cannot ever get back
