Daft question, have you got a drive hooked up to your Atom board? Volumio will need to detect one before it offers you the option.

Interesting that the x86 menu bar is on the right rather than the left, as I'm used to for the TBS version.

I think you're confusing the Classic interface (as in that image) and the Contemporary interface that you switched tom Martin. I've always used the "Classic" and that's where my sidebar has always been.

Daft question, have you got a drive hooked up to your Atom board? I'm saying nothing . . . . .
Regarding power options, I can run the Atom board with just a single core which I might try. There are a few other options in BIOS available, not regarding sound quality, more to do with seeing how little power I can get away with and not lose anything performance wise.
I really like the board, it's a shame Intel abandoned all their development regarding motherboards and just concentrated on NUC.

Oh yes I totally agree, I would like to have seen them do both.

Job done, now running from a 32GB mSATA on the board, thanks Slinger. Boot times have improved (45s to the tinkle, so a minute faster) but more important for me is the nasty flashing light on the USB stick has gone, which was annoying.
Just need to get an SSD with music sorted and that'll do for now.

My Tinker S arrived today. I'd hoped it would be a straight forward install...
Maybe I'm missing something...eg a jumper setting or having to wait a long time on the first boot (ie more than 10 mins). I flashed the tinkerboard 2.779 images onto an 8GB microSD. It boots in that the ethernet lights go green, I can see the IP address on my router but volumio.local does not connect and navigating to the IP address from Chrome doesn't work.
I suspected the microSD so I flashed a 32GB card but the result is the same. To check I wasn't going mad I pulled out a Pi 3B, flashed the Pi 2.729 image to the 32GB card - it all works as normal.
Any pointers from the Tinkerers?

The big problem is power. If you don't supply at least 2.5A it craps out on booting up.

LastFM scrobbling now works! I installed it a second time and tried what Slinger said, left it alone then after a couple of reboots it worked. Odd, but there you go. Hopefully it'll function OK and it works for both Spotify and albums played locally. FLAC files played from a USB stick sound very good.
I did try out manually disabling one of the 2 CPU cores in BIOS, but it made zero difference to the power draw, so I guess the Intel SpeedStep Technology is doing it automatically for me when both cores are enabled, so I've left it on Auto. No doubt Volumio makes minimal use of the CPU.
The only thing that's still flaky is Spotify Connect - how does other peoples Spotify connect function, or don't you guys use it? I'm not using Volspotconnect, I'm using the built in plugin.

The big problem is power. If you don't supply at least 2.5A it craps out on booting up. I'd seen the comments about power so I started out with the 5V/3A smps which was in the box. Since you made the point above I've tried it with my Supercap PS (limited to 5A) and an SBooster 5V/3A. Still no joy. How long should the first boot take to get to the Volumio Wizard? On a Pi it's not long, maybe a minute. It shows up on the router as ethernet connected. The ethernet leds are working, the RHS one is solid green, the LHS flashes every few seconds. Would it do this if the boot had crapped out? The error is 192.168.1.xx refused to connect.

How long should the first boot take to get to the Volumio Wizard? On a Pi it's not long, maybe a minute. On my Intel Atom board it was a long time for first boot, I'm not sure how long but quite a few minutes, maybe 5 or more?
The next boots were around 2 minutes, then when I moved the O/S to the internal mSATA I'm now at 45s.
I thought it wasn't working the first time I tried it to be honest, but it was. I only hung on because the USB light was still flashing, but with a microSD you won't get that encouragement!

I'll leave it 30 mins...that should be long enough!

Ok, next step is to try it near your router on an Ethernet cable so you're not relying on the wi-fi hotspot in case it's not coming on for some reason.
If volumio.local doesn't find it, look at your router and see what's listed in the DHCP device list. On many routers, it starts off with 192.168.1.100 or thereabouts. See if you can browse to the IP address. Alternatively, use an IP scanner.
Is the TBS red LED on?

I've tried a short ethernet cable to the router. The TBS is listed as connected to the router from the router admin software. Browsing to the IP address gives a "refused to connect" error. I'm using a horrible powerline ethernet so I don't have to be by the router. The Pi worked fine...in the identical setup. The red led on the TBS is on (near the microUSB socket).

Connecting to the IP address gives refused to connect
Connecting to volumio.local gives server IP address could not be found
So it's got as far as connecting to the network (partially) but not setting up volume.local

Strange. It shouldn't be that difficult. Maybe download the 2.779 TBS image again?

Strange. It shouldn't be that difficult. Maybe download the 2.779 TBS image again? I've done that too. I've resorted to RTFM... The 4-pin jumper. The diagram shows 3 states: default disable power on eMMC recovery The jumper was set to the 4th position (ie undefined). I tried power one but that seemd to do the revers. I'm on default disable now but to no avail. What setting should I use for microSD?

Well about bloody time. Why does the jumper have to be set to eMMC Recovery when it's the SD I want to use? The wiki calls this Maskrom mode.
