Only in my 5.1 "home cinema" system. I wouldn't be without one for that.

I used to use an REL storm with my Spicas. I thought it was fab. It weighed too much for me to bring with me or I'd still have it. You can pick them up for £100 or so because they are too heavy to post and get listed as "collection only". Not a lot of money to lay out if you want to find out for yourself.

Not exactly but.............use a system with anything less than a 12" woofer and you are missing a lot of the music.

use a system with anything less than a 12" woofer and you are missing a lot of the music. Agreed, bass extension is important in so many ways to convey musical flow. I never could understand small speakers in a main system. I used to have a REL Studio II but sold it when I bought the Ushers. It could move serious air.

REL Studio II i still have one of them now used as a coffee table, could never get it quite right in my room,cd`s and pictures used to vibrate and join in with the music also had a few fall off the shelf,a very well made sub excellant finish, first tried it out with Jurassic park 1,awesome

I like bass, but I struggle with subs in music systems (they are ok in surround sound systems).
Possibly because I have never managed to get them to integrate correctly with the speakers, so they always sounded detached to my ears and slow. I have heard some that work at different locations, but never got them to work myself.

Maybe it was just the way I was trying to integrate them which caused my issues.

How does one get the correct level of crossover with the main pair thought? trial and error turning the crossover up and down etc?

How does one get the correct level of crossover with the main pair thought? trial and error turning the crossover up and down etc? I used a test CD with low frequency tones then set the controls for as flat a response down to sub frequencies as I could, with no peak in the crossover area. Start with setting the crossover frequency at the -3dB rolloff of your main speakers. A few trials and plots with Excel should achieve a decent amount of integration. A rule of thumb is that if you can hear the sub then it's set too high in level. You should only have the impression that your main speakers have grown in size.
