Wow. I think the rack is going to look stunning when finished. Wonder how much shipping to UK is ...

Cheers Jules; I’m taking delivery in an hour. I’ll get pictures when it’s all plumbed in. Will be nice to have the hifi back, it’s been 3 weeks without music since I sold my last rack

Here’s an interesting observation I made, since having (half) set the system up on the new rack; it sounds different.
The way I realised this was incidental, rather than deliberate. I’d done zero critical listening, was reading something on my phone, with music playing in the background, when all of a sudden I couldn’t help but take notice of the piano playing.
It sounded more open than before, with a grander sense of scale and timbral freeness. So I tried a few other tracks I’m familiar with and yes, there’s a new level of resolution that’s been unlocked. There’s a couple of things that could be at play here, freedom from glass, better isolation of all components (as well as improved freedom from one another) and the material of the rack (Blackwood). Whatever it is I’m very happy with it.
I asked my partner if she could hear anything (without telling her my observations) and she replied “yes, it sounds more open, but that’s got to be psychological hasn’t it?”.
Lol.

Had you changed anything else? The only change I’ve made is the rack, everything else is literally the same (including sub omptimal speaker placement).

Even though I am prepared to believe racks work I was surprised at the difference moving from the good Mana set up to Creakiv.
Great width and openness has been a hallmark of late in the various upgrades including the new racks

Mike's wobbly stands are rather impressive!

Max Townsend's demo of his stands is very simple, yet impressive. He has two speakers standing side by side, each with a tablet sat on top. No music playing and one speaker is on his stand, the other on spikes. He jumps up and down a couple of times and you see that the tablets are each running a seismograph app. Now, Max can't quite reach the same levels as a rumble from the San Andreas fault, for example, but he's a big lad - he has hands the size of most people's head! Even on a concrete floor, the reaction from the seismographs is significant. A simple comparison between the two traces created on the graphs is rather interesting. They are bloody expensive though.

I've done that with my phone, Chris. It's interesting how different supports do a different job. It also explains why I no longer like spikes, they are the opposite of isolation and it shows. Decoupling versus coupling.

Yep Townshend stuff is expensive and that's why I keep a keen beady eye on ebay for his stuff.

There were speaker stands going around half price a while back. Still not pennies of course
