Our far eastern cousins are very savvy. They treasure the chrome bumper Naim, Farlowe era Exposure, Linn Kans and many other flat earth treasures. Prices have risen because so much has already left us.

Some amps for today. First up is is a Void Audio amp. It was over £2000 new (I bought it used with purchase receipt) but I never managed to find any more info in it. Stunning internal build though. Next an Audiolab 8000C/P. Nice Amps but just slightly veiled. Ultimately I needed to remove the veil next is a Musical Fidelity A1 and a Rega Elex, sandwiched by what looks like an Arcam Delta 250 (edit: it actually says 270). I have other pics of this CD player linked up to my ARC/Krell pairing but I don't have any memories of the thing! I clearly have owned it, but its like the pics are from an alternate universe! Next is the A1 on its own with some Naim amps in the background. Could be a 42 or 42.5 or maybe a 62 paired with a 90 or 110 or most likely a 140. After that is a another Naim pairing for the same era. Then a DPA preamp I don't think I ever used. Floowed by a HK6550 that was pretty good. Not the most detailed amp but a good string delivery. And next a Naim 82/180 that lasted less than a week. It was decent enough but not as lively as earlier Naim And finally a Quantum pre/power/PSU. These were made by a former Naim guy (Tim Nind?). They were nice enough: Reminded me of earlier NVA amps in many ways, but I enjoyed my livelier Naim amps more at the time. post image url for forum

For nearly a year I've been using Rega Apollo-R CD Player in the main system. Nice player for the money. Hoping to replace it someday with a Saturn-R. This Apollo-R pictured was my first example. S. Rega Apollo-R by Shane Lonergan, on Flickr

It wasn't using my Orbe so I took the opportunity of an existing travel plan, put it in a suitcase and turned up with it on a mate's doorstep. He was delighted and had it up and running in an hour or so. It had been with me two months and I hadn't been bothered to fit an arm or catrtidge. It was simply gathering dust. Now it's getting enjoyed. My mates a good bloke. In fact he's one of the very best people I've ever been lucky enough to meet. He sent me a pic which made me so happy to see.

I must say I was really impressed with the engineering, my favourite part was the way the bearing is threaded to fit so slickly into the sub-chassis. But then every single bit of it was beautifully made. I didn't hang around to hear it but I will get the chance the next time I'm passing through the UK. He got some large-ish Tannoys right now which weren't really my cuppa. I'm still struggling to process what I heard through them via his CD player. Nothing else quite like them tbh.

I have an Alphason Sonata with separate PSU and also a Revolver with Super Arm. I'm also getting a Japanese DD which I will probably hang onto as well.
The Sonata is still on its box, but I hope to get it running in a couple of months. I don't know which I will keep, but I doubt it will be the Sonata. I have had the arms before but never the deck, so I still had it on my bucket list. I really don't like using suspended decks though, so it will probably give way to one of the others.
The Revolver is in a gorgeous wood finish and the Super Arm is a rarity so I'm favouring that. I recall hearing the standard Revolver back in the day and finding it tremendously enjoyable. My abiding thougt was "I bet that's a lovely deck with a better arm". I will soon get to find out. My mate with the Orbe is looking after the Revolver for me, but I have the Alphason.

Would be nice to see a pic of the Revolver some time! Have you decided on a Jap dd? Every now and again I like to drool at all the dd decks over at hifido.jp ...

I'm chasing a PS-X9 but need to get delivery/collection sorted. A couple of pics of the Revolver and Super arm. Mine's far nicer in the flesh but finish is the same.

I had a friend with a Revolver back in the late '80s, it did sound a good deck.

I have one or two ideas for tweaking a revolver. If they work I wil post details. My mate gave me an SDS platter mat the other day. I haven't had a chance to do anything with it, but I'm really excited to have one to play with it. Tapping it is an unusual experience because it is dead as dust. He has one and reckons they have a bigger influence than I'd imagine. If it beats an Origin Live Mat it will be a big upgrade to a turntable. Anyone tried them?

The SDS didn't work well on the Technics, I think because of a tiny lip on the platter.
