I was going to try Tofu in a spicy Tawa I usually make with chicken. Then I looked it up; Tofu's as bad for you as some of the meat I was trying to cut back on. It's associated the breast cancer and thyroid problems, both of which my wife had/has issues with. There's no free lunch is there? Maybe I'll try Quorn. Very surprising. I'll have a look too

To be fair it's only with large quantities of Tofu but once someone is paranoid about what goes into their body (for good reason), then any hint of an issue becomes major.

Larger than the same amount of chicken ? If anyone eats silly amounts of anything they will have a proble I should have said "eats it regularly" so over time consumes a large amount...just as you might with chicken if you consume chicken 3 days per week, so say 3 chicken breasts per week.

Have you tried Quorn, Mike? They serve it at work quite often and I always go for it now.

Yes. Can't really avoid it ! Generally I prefer Quorn alternatives. Linda McCartney and Tesco favourite. Sometimes Cook. Future intentions are to move towards making it myself

Quorn balls are not a bad substitute for meaty ones. Quorn doesn't absorb the flavour of a sauce like Tofu does though.

University of Cambridge: Removing meat 'cut carbon emissions'"The University of Cambridge has said removing beef and lamb from its menus has cut food-related carbon emissions by a third. The university's catering service replaced the meat with plant-based products for its 14 outlets and 1,500 annual events from October 2016. Prof Andrew Balmford, from the university, said it had "dramatically reduced their environmental footprint"

I bet they aren't counting the emissions of all the students driving off campus to go and get their meat fix!

As a student, I lived almost exclusively on TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) not by choice, but because it's all I could afford. I grew to hate the stuff and ever since I can't eat any of the 'mock meat' products, they all seem to have the same 'aftertaste'.

I bet they aren't counting the emissions of all the students driving off campus to go and get their meat fix! Similar is often quoted. My guess is that proportion has shrunk considerably and will continue to do so. Bearing in mind more females tend to be veggie there is an opening for prospective suitors to do the same On site food must be cheaper than off site and students need all their money for booze

Beans on toast is good for you I'm told. (Not over keen, perhaps I ought to be) Not a lot for a "meal" though Beans on toast is food of the Gods.
