What about the Academy of ancient music version by Christopher Hogwood ?
Yes, that's a good one and I have it. I have about 10 different versions! Only 10, you must try harder Martin Recently I've listened to Felix Ayo, I Musici on Philips 835 030 AY and while I like all the old favorites I'm beginning to think this is probably the one I enjoy the most.

Much to my surprise I very much enjoyed the Kennedy! I liked the playing and the overall vigour and spirit of the approach.
Can't really fault the Loveday - it's really what you would expect from Argo and Sir Neville.
The Sparf didn't quite chime with me, I found the interpretation a little 'dry' compared to the others.

That Kennedy with the BPO is less mannered than his earlier recording. Thanks for voting!

only 3 voting choices out of dozens , but like voting for the leader of the EU with only one choice It's no different from the elections. You don't get to choose the candidates, just vote for the best one.

Novice classical punter
Kennedy. Sounds more serious and heavy duty

If only someone would remove Nigel Kennedy's vocal chords, I would be able to appreciate his performances properly. And put a bag on his head

Novice classical punter Kennedy. Sounds more serious and heavy duty Interesting idea. For me the whole point of the four seasons is that its mostly happy, fun and boisterous, with some variation to allow for the feel of the seasons. I laugh out loud every time the little fat ladies ride in on their fat little ponies

Serious in the 'this is music we are playing seriously' Didn't know the background to the Four Seasons I admit to 'previous baggage' as far as Kennedy is concerned, I quite often listen with eyes closed but with him, its essential

Quite.
He looks exactly like someone you really do not want anything to do with. Bit to flamboyant in movement too
Eyes closed it is

I always hate the expression 'serious music' when applied to classical music - that's classical in the widest sense of course. There can be a huge amount of humour and lightheartedness. In a way, I think its to do with this business of just playing the notes. Too much reverence makes the music boring to my ears. Lighten up and enjoy yourself should be drummed into any young player who wants to be a classical musician. If music is to be a way of life make the damn thing fun

Not serious as in serious. I need better words......
Tight, professional, 'there', filling out the space - that sort of serious

I was wondering this was going to be a Frankie Valli thread but seems not so.. LOL - I remember at the age of 16 a friend saying he was buying the Four Seasons and I thought exactly the same thing!

Right, I think enough time has passed in this thread to allow me to drop a wee bomb in it.
