Rare because not a lot were ever made, the Horning Agathon made a great impression on me. Fantastically dynamic on small scale music, they could move air, too. Without doubt the best horn speakers I've ever heard.

Even Google Image search won't bring up many of the rarer speakers. If I'd had a more settled home life, I'd have kept or re-acquired most of the magazine's of the day, just for the pleasure of seeing this stuff. It interests me far more than the music does.

Had a look round my storage unit and found two pairs of Dynatron speakers. First thought was “What time does the dump close?” But I knew the kit they had come with and both had come with GL75s so I took a look inside. One pair are 2 way with Goodmans units and a single capacitor as a “crossover”. The other pair are 3way with Goodmans mid and top and a rather nice 8” Elac bass with a simarlarly basic crossover. I know that the furniture factory that made the Dynatron cabinets for their gear, including the fake antique ones, made good gear. They were in Jeddo Road in White City, next door to Wembley Loudspeakers and my uncles engineering factory. In fact they used to let us use their equipment to make prototypes. These cases are pretty study, but could use some bracing. I think I’ll use them as a project, first I’ll try a prope x over, some terminals instead of the bit of wet spaghetti directly connected to the bass drivers. A good game for the new year 😊

Speaker projects are fun, and very satisfying when you finally fire them up.

Speaker projects are fun, and very satisfying when you finally fire them up. Yep always good fun, I haven’t designed any speakers in years, but I have had loads of ideas that I’ve wanted to try. I recently drew up the plans for a pair of open baffles with some classic JVC ribbon tweeters. I’m probably going to do them later in the year after I’ve done the 401
