'Not going out' is amazing even more funny than some of the seventies heyday sitcoms- really clever. Lee Mack tends to play up his image of being a "bit of a thicko" but I don't believe it for a moment. The cast, both past and present, in Not Going Out, make up a great ensemble too, and I'd place it at the exact opposite end of the comedy spectrum to that other recent attempt at a "sitcom," the obnoxious Mrs Brown's Boys.

If you missed it, watch it on iPlayer, catchup, whatever. Yemen, Jimmy Saville, one of Frankie's famous monologues, they're all there along with some interesting facts, some interesting people and some lovely windswept scenery. If you're a fan, you really don't want to miss this.

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread with one that caught Paul's attention back in 2019... Derry Girls. I'm admittedly a little late to the party with this one but saw the first three episodes this week and actually had put it on pause several time because I was laughing so hard. Being the product of a grammar school education curated by the good nuns helped me to relate to the comical realities of these young ladies. Be warned that this is highly irreverent and some might find it offensive. My only problem with it came from nearly pissing my pants laughing at the onslaught of humor.
If you haven't seen it, you might find some cheer in our difficult times. I found it purely by accident on Netflix.

I have been regaling myself with episodes of one of the funniest British comedies ever made: Coupling. It's the perfect relationship comedy and so tightly written that even now I laugh out loud knowing what's coming. Very clever with words and observations, it's right up there with Fawlty Towers as the best and most timeless comedy.

We used to enjoy "Coupling" too. I always rather fancied Sarah Alexander in Coupling, and in Smack The Pony, and in The Armstrong and Miller Show, and in...

"Teachers" was another classic, and Jeanette and I loved it. I even bought the 4-series box set so we could watch it again. Andrew Lincoln (Afterlife, The Walking Dead) stars, but it's really a great ensemble piece.
