I use Aviva also and claimed for a damaged cartridge. Replaced without question. Cannot so far fault them.

Signed back up with LV with increased contents to be sure everything, bought 2nd hand, will be replaced with new
Anyone comparing insurance look out for all the different criteria. Burglar alarms may be included - if you look hard enough.
For most people Aviva take some beating. Well worth a few minutes filling in the same / slightly different questions to check

Revisiting this a year later. Put in a higher value for contents to be safe GoCompare best with Home Protect who mention Axa but are much less than others at £364 Next best my existing guys LV at £522 Goes up from there into a lot of money Tried Hiscox £2000 ! Following Martins Money tips tried Aviva as a separate before giving up. 20% off as I'm already a customer. I'll take that £286 *Unlimited* Buildings cover *Unlimited* Contents I'm staggered. Need to look at the exceptions very carefully.... Mike. Take a look at M&S Premium Buildings and Contents policy. I ditched John Lewis this year and saved £200 on my premium. Now £450 for "Unlimited" cover on both buildings and contents, with no "single item limit" which is very important when considering individual hi fi components and their replacement value! I also specified £25K away from home cover for valuables such as our wristwatches and camera gear taken on holiday!

I was with Hiscox for years, as they were unlimited and didn't have a single item limit, but their premiums got stupidly expensive, so I switched to John Lewis four years ago. John Lewis have gone the same way with premiums increasing by £100 a year on average. This year I had had enough, so did some research and chose M&S online, which also included a £50 voucher to spend in store! No doubt the premium will climb on renewal, next year, but I am expecting that, as it was an online offer, discounted to attract new customers! Next year I may get more favourable terms if I return to John Lewis. There is no reward for loyalty!

When fitting any sort of external doors make sure you have BS 3621 locks, as at January 2019.
Assume little extra cost when new. Loadsamoney if you have them added by a locksmith when the insurance company make it a condition.
Assume new windows come with locks fitted. If not they will also be required at insurance renewal time sooner or later.

Dunno what to do about all that either. All my kits s/h so no receipts. Replacement value makes me wince.
Big dog and the willingness to do serious harm seem to be a not bad insurance policy for me.

Our Hiscox insurance renewal came through and the premiums went up again, so I saw red and told them to stuff it. Over £1700 is taking the piss.
Having a hunt around for buildings and contents, and naming my three highest value items (speakers, power amp, preamp), I can get a good policy from Hastings Premier for £333. That includes £1M buildings cover, £60k contents and £75k legal costs. Think I'll be going with them.

£60K contents seems a bit thin to me, martin.

The Hastings quote has remained at £333 when pushing contents up to £100k.

LV sent me a reminder for house insurance. Price not mentioned, just PDFs that need a password I don't have ! Had a look around to see what has happened to the market as 12 months can be a long time in house insurance Hmm. Might be able to save £200 on one comparison site On SteveC recommendation I also tried M&S. Could not continue past the first page after checking all was correct and trying many times. Rang them up, or more correctly her, a Scottish lady probably working from home with an accent strong enough to make me try hard to work out the words from context. Helpful. Told me M&S insurance is Aviva (!) Read the blurb you can see that too. Said I'd like to be with Aviva but can't. She was surprised and said they could. Great. Half an hour later, a long time considering she was accessing my details she gives two prices, which I'm struggling to remember as I dismissed both instantly. £800 ish and £1000 ish Way too much as LV was £500 odd last year and comparison is £300 ish "Try again online as it will be less" Works now. Duh, Me and tech.... Premier - which I don't think I need £733 Standard £527 That might work, but £300 is better Always wise to compare insurance and so many things
