I'm another who doesn't understand the concept "too much cheese"
I think really good cheddar and stilton are hard to beat.
But I also enjoy mountain cheeses and we have ski restaurants do great raclette and fondue savoyard.
Comte is probably my favourite ski cheese. We also have Tomme locally.
But if i am doing the Monty python sketch - "I like it runny"- then a good epoisse for me

My Rollschnitt comes in at #3 but I think I might try out their #1 choice which, basically, is just a slightly more upmarket version of mine.

There's a French cheese I need to rediscover. It's quite soft and very smelly but totally wonderful. The taste is powerful but also smooth. It's one of the cheeses French people seem to know and revere but what on earth could it be? I know...my description is lousy but honestly it's stunning, whatever it is.
I wonder if it was Reblochon or Munster.

I have to admit I'm trying to think why one would need a cheese slicer? A knife is sufficient for me.
Just back from a very entertaining evening with Tom Russell in Cardiff, so it's out with the Snowdonia Green Thunder, crackers and a nice Malbec.

I agree Tim, but as folk were talking about kit.... I know, for you, it's all about the cheese! Me too.

Tom Russell - one of the greatest artists far too many people have never even heard of. In a perfect world, or maybe an alternate universe, Who's Gonna Build Your Wall (b/w Stealing Electricity perhaps) would have been re-released as a single and immediately gone platinum.

Who's Gonna Build Your WallHe played that Slinger, wrote it 10 years ago, oh the prophecy of those words. 2 hours of great stories and some very fine songs, he had a Spanish guitarist with him whose name escapes me, boy could he play. Great night and home before 11 EDIT: Max De Bernardi was his guitarist

...Snowdonia Green Thunder, crackers and a nice Malbec. Welsh Cheese: A few years ago, Mischa and I were visiting Anthony Mathews to deliver or collect (can't remember which) an amp for some work and we decided to spend a few days in that neck of the woods. We had a morning to spare and I thought we probably ought to take a trip to Caerphilly and buy some real Caerphilly cheese. We searched high and low, going into every food shop, supermarket, market stall and grocery we could find. Not a bloody crumb anywhere! I couldn't believe it. What's that all about then?

Well old bean and I feel being half of one I can say it, but the Welsh are a funny old bunch. There's nothing that happens here that surprises me and not being able to buy Caerphilly cheese in Caerphilly is one of them!

I won't say that this thread has been influencing my listening choices of late, but I have been spinning, in quick succession:-
Sweet dreams are made of cheese. Who am I to diss a Brie. We Gouda get out of this place. Breaking up is Yarg to do. Jailhouse Roquefort. Lady in Red Leicester Let it Brie.
Indeed. Anything by:-
Emmental, Lake & Palmer. Dairylea Lewis. The Cheeses & Mary Chain. Crosby, Stilton, Nash & Young. Kraft(werk).

There are hundreds of French cheeses, so lots of possible candidates, but it does sound like epoisse I can bring some back for folk to try, if anyone is interested near Tunbridge Wells, Burgess Hill, Hove or Ipswich next week
