I use a headline in my main system this is for a iMac ,cd player fed into a arcam bi amped system in a computer room/office,just at night time so I can use phones late at night without waking up the family,I just want something better than a bush 2 which I already have,I feel it's not a match fo rock music ,to bright,I listen flac/wav files and a arcam 290 CD player so a dac would give the aging 290 a lift plus a headphone socket

I bought the Naim system because it does what it's supposed to do for plays music, rytham, foot tapping music which I like and it matches the lp12 so the headline is a good match also I got off the upgrade ladder because it started costing me a lot of money,I was keep upgrading and listening to the electronics ,not the music,I spoilt my wife enjoyment of music because I was to critical and also all the different manufacturers equipment so it always looked a mess,to think I used a mus fid Mvt pre amp and two mus fid 370 power amps fed into a pair of AE 1 pro speakers and two rel stadium subs, them were the days watching the electric meters spin around, excellent out of the box sound, but no rytham so back to the Naim rig, buying other manafactures does not appeal to me now, hence the caiman 2 /caiman seq ,I'm not sure which one,I have just bought a pair of Senns he 600 so I want to drive them properly, remember it's computer room,I have always liked the naim/arcam sound,I've tried the krell, acoustic research mcintosh and mark levintson route,so I hope to buy either the caiman2 or the seq s.the head line matches the Naim system also I'm building a power supply for the new dac,I could of modded a hi cap or super cap but I think that would be overkill

The Caiman-II with the latest firmware is good, the SEG is even better and is absolutely top class, especially if the decoding is set to Mode 3. In no way can it be characterised as bright - if it sounds bright, there is a system mismatch somewhere. What you get is a very spacious and dimensional soundstage, very fine detail, pinpoint positioning, deep bass and an overall very musical presentation.

The SEG's USB input is really very good as John and I found recently. I don't use USB in my main system, but I do with my PC system running a much older modified original Caiman.

To me it never ends with people swapping & changing. Naim are very attractive to me for a number of reasons. I used to have a Naim Pre/Power when i first started out in Hi-Fi ['32.5'/'HI-CAP'/'160'] I was very happy with it but changed it for no reason other than Magazines being like a kid in a sweet shop back then Naim are super build quality [An important factor for me] Obviously a fine tuned range of Electronics that makes it much much easier for people not to go wrong.. Do Naim sound the same these days?? Ive borrowed a SEG from a friend which i like but im not going to persue buying one for a good reason.. Ive spent thousands upon thousand with Hi-Fi over the years but to get nowhere, puts you off music & certainly put me off music. I should have just stuck with the good early system that i had in the first place.. Bought another house instead

It would of been easier for me to buy a new house ,than building a music/ home cinema room at least I did not have to share cinema part with my wife, never stops talking threw out the film, thank god I can close the door for my music ,it was a lot harder to extend and build than I thought, all the mud and dirt.i doubt if I would do that again,Naim does the job that I want ,there is a lot of boxes though to get where it is at the moment, never gets turned off it runs on a seperate consumer unit with 15amp un fused round pin mk plugs with a special made block of stainless steal my sockets

I used my Caiman II on my previous Naim NDX and it seriously whooped the internal DAC sound and that was using a converter to BNC from phono, and I understand that the SEG is even better.
The Caiman II is significantly more open, natural and analogue sounding than the Bushmaster II which I also own, although to be fair, the Beresford sound is nothing like the Naim sound. You get a lot, lot, more openness, depth and width of sound stage and detail and significantly less bright IMO.

It's for a computer room/office not going into a arcam pre/power bi amped,I'm plugging into a imac, and a arcam 290 CD player ,it will go going nowhere near my Naim system.it will give me the option of using headphones late at night while in the computer also it should give the 290 a new lease of life

Sorry I maybe didn't articulate myself very well. I knew that you weren't connecting the Beresford to the Naim system, I was just letting you know that the Beresford has a very different sound signature, and I find a lot of Naim fans don't appear to like the sound of other kit.
