The new 6D cables continue to improve and tonight I realised that I was hearing more depth and even more definition around the sounds of instruments. Bass has become slightly more potent and extended, too.
In Mike's language, I'm getting more music.
Who said cables make no difference, again?

Had Mike and John come round for a music session yesterday. What was most gratifying is the amount of overlap we have in musical tastes with much discussion of Jeff Beck, for instance, and the musicians he has surround himself with. We played parts of Who Else! and You Had it Coming, which are both superb. It seems that it's our favourite phase of his career. I heard several albums and groups I'd not come across before, courtesy of what they had brought round. The overlap is not complete, though, with puzzled looks at some of the music!
I played them a couple of tracks from the Jimmy Page remastered Led Zeppelin albums, Who Lotta Love and Dazed and Confused. We agreed that this was the best we had ever heard them sound, with John Bonham benefitting the most, and that I should start a thread on them, which I will.
A very enjoyable afternoon. Thanks, chaps!

I'm trying to buy a used Crown pro amp in order to make some comparisons. There is no doubting the Belles' credentials, but I sometimes miss the almost limitless headroom of the Chord. I want to compare them so that I can check whether certain effects I'm hearing are the Belles running out of steam or just odd room effects.
Strangely (or perhaps not) I notice the possible limitations much more in classical than in rock. Massed choral music puts a strain on hi-fi systems like nothing else I know.

Thanks, but I was hoping for one of the more modern Drivecore Crowns, and to pay less too. I just want to experiment for a while then either put it back on the market or keep it for a rainy day.

Yes, the stupendous crescendo in the Sanctus of Durufle's Requiem, recorded by Shaw on Telarc. There is nothing like it, certainly nothing in rock music can touch the awesome dynamic range from the almost silent build up to the beyond-intense peak where an entire choir is bellowing at the tops of their voices. I know of no greater stress for a hi-fi system, certainly nothing that creates such a complex and difficult to reproduce waveform.
It makes grown amps cry, and the Belles is showing signs of stress. I want to validate what I'm hearing or look elsewhere to fix the problem.

Hmm
I've driven the Belles and TAD amps *hard* and LOUD and all seems fine. With so much different kit being tried out that isn't too scientific though.
Dynamic range seems greater than the Chord on the music I play, no classical

Yep, no problems with the Belles on dynamic range and that's why I bought it, as well as its incredible performance in fine detail.
Since you don't play classical music I don't think you can appreciate how tough really complex midrange can be on a system. As I said, rock music doesn't come close and everything remains tight and detailed. Stick 100+ voices at high levels in the mix and it tests different abilities completely, and ruthlessly reveals problems in the midrange (like limited voltage swings).

I think to find an amplifier that has that degree of low end grunt and similar finer detail would be hard to find and costly too If the crown has better bass (it will not have the same insight as the Belles) what will you do search for a one box solution, think about monos or go active If there is one area I think your system could improve its still needs a bit more control in the bass

Bi-amping with monos on the bass. It's the only way to go!!

It could be done, but before I go down that road I need to prove what I think I can hear, and whether it is anything to do with power amplification.

Happy for you to pop over and hear the Belles monos driving TADs. Bring the relevant CDs to test
