That is true about anything in ones life. Why the need to tell others about yourself and circumstance? With regard to HiFi tell if asked or offer if being discussed rather than publisise what one has. That’s exactly what I did; I wasn’t ‘publicising’ anything, but as Martin correctly says, merely contributing to a discussion. It’s a sad day that when doing so, and simply relating your experiences to others, is automatically considered as “boasting” or "willy-waving”. I really fail to see how sticking nitrogen in your tyres equates to ''willy-waving" ... It's not really that bling is it? The clue's in the title of the thread 'What Car ya got??' ... Would seem to me to be an open invitation to discuss, er, cars and automotive 'stuff' ... Rather difficult to do unless you tell people what you are using. As a Honda Civic driver I don't have much to contribute on this score but can respect other people's desire to do.

There is an American firm who make electronic test equipment.
Wayne Kerr. Wayne Kerr were a British company. Named by the founder after his favourite actors: (John) Wayne and (Deborah) Kerr, the name should be pronounced "Wayne Karr", but of course the illiteratii would pronounce it "Wanker"!

We used to be next to Merityre in Chertsey. I think they only put in nitrogen now. Incidentally there is one round the corner from Martin www.merityre.co.uk/branch/car-tyres/basingstokeThat manager looks like Daryl who used to be in Chertsey, and there can't be that many Daryls Ask him for a special deal Martin as you know me

I'm very happy with my setup actually, so I won't go changing things for now. Gave an M3 a shock earlier today

Correct Barry, but it was always a source of amusement when I was at scholl as some of the laboratory test equipment was by said manufacturer.

I would agree, it seems like a case of excess baggage to me that should have been given put in the boot. Back to the subject, I drive a Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE GS. This is my third one. The first I got in late 2007, got the second in 2011 and the current one earlier this year. It's quite sprightly with 195 hp, 6 speed semi auto with sports mode, electric and heated everything, sat nav that really works, road, snow, sand and mud modes means it literally goes anywhere whatever the conditions and 825 watts of Meridian sound system with more speakers than you can shake a stick at (17)

I’m not sure that Philip knows how to have fun, Martin…. So what happened exactly, how did you give the M3 a “shock" - did you have a race or what? We need more details…! Marco.

I don't race on public roads. Just left him behind when he tried to keep up.

So more than a “shock” then! Agree about racing on public roads, but for me that doesn’t include ‘take-offs’ at lights….. Marco.

Gents, I have some questions about tyres for you ... I am due to change my rear tyres soon and would like to make a more informed choice than normal. I notice that there is a new EU labelling system that rates tyres for fuel economy, wet grip and noise levels ... I wonder how reliable these ratings are and how much attention you should pay to them? For example, I think I read somewhere that the 'eco' tyres that give better fuel economy degrade quicker than others ... I'd like to get durable tyres but seems to be difficult to find out which tyres last longer than others. I was told that the 'treadware' rating was designed for the US market and doesn't mean much over here. Seems that some tyres have such a rating and some don't. The figures aren't published by the maufacturers so you have to go trawling over the internet. Also, am thinking of getting one of these compressors so I can sort out the tyres at home - can't stand trying to find a garage with an air compressor that works! Seems to get consistently good reviews and can't go too far wrong for just over a tenner ... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0030FBSQ2/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1D4RDHBMPR8FN&coliid=I1N15O73UID6FH

Ah, the old traffic lights Grand Prix. Not much can compete with a well sorted Caterham, so there is not much point in trying these days. Add that to the fact that I tend to do most of my driving on country roads, where there is a distinct lack of traffic lights, and you can see the real problem.

Jules - the usual maxim seems to apply, which is that cheap tyres wear the least well. Generally the eco tyres do have lower rolling resistance, but how that translates to real mpg gains is going to depend largely on your right foot. Stick to a good brand and you'll probably get better life, which might add up to the gains you could make from lower rolling resistance.
I have one of those pumps but with a digital gauge. It works well and the gauge is accurate.

VW Polo 1.4 5 dr, glossy black.
Though I do see a rather nice Bentley most days as he comuters to HIS office on my route to work, They have beautiful lines and no doubt travel very pleasantly. If I lotto I think I'd have one rather than a BMW or Merc, good though German engineering is. Support our own craftsmen. The Merc/BMW ranges have changes too often to stimulate sales whereas the Bentley changes are subtle and relatively timeless styles.
Really urban daytime traffic is too much of a pain sadly and motorways aren't

A lot of the gizmos like electronic brakes have worked their way down from Bentley to the lower models like my Passat.

Perhaps that is why persons interested in using Nitorgen for example or finding it normal to mention about their motoring world in it's finer details seem to be making "look at me I am a cut above yer average" type thinkers. Stops them from harrassing old folks I guess.
