Hah - I love whisky but keep the Glenfiddich for mixer duties. I find it somewhat coarse. My favourites are the aforementioned Balvenie, Dalwhinnie, Laphroaig, Talisker and Highland Park. My favourite blended by far is Ben Nevis.

I've grown to rather like Glenfiddich 12!
It's my wife's favourite so we often have a bottle in... I do find that tinge of sweetness quite appealing.
Martin - you really should try the Ballantine 17 sometime, such a sophisticated blend. Mine went way too quickly...

Although I am unable to drink at all now for medical reasons, I never did get on with Whiskey's, I tried a few but always found them unpleasant

This Glenfiddich 15 isn't the last work in complexity but it is rather quaffable, judging by how much has disappeared since Sunday ...

Here's my latest bottle - Singleton Tailfire. It's a no age statement single malt. Described as 'vibrant, fruity, fresh'. I'd go along with that - just don't expect too much more. No great complexity as you might expect for a young whisky. Spicy oak with a really strong vanilla streak to it, mild smoke on the finish. I'm really missing my Ballantine 17.

My latest whisky is the superb Copper Dog - a Speyside blend of eight single malts, it's also very reasonably priced. Raisins and toffee on the nose which really come to the fore on the palate. Reminds me of the old Prize chocolate bar with creamy fudge and raisins. Very subtle citrus fruits and warming spice notes. Delicious. Very persistent finish, immensely satisfying. Highly recommended.

I'm trying not to get into whiskey, as I have one of the following literally a 60 second walk away from my business! www.htfw.com/

There's a few stores that give away "vinyl vouchers" with sales of their turntables - I don't sell vinyl (not really the right venue for that at the moment), so thought of teaming up with them and offering "whiskey vouchers"! What I should've posted was a link to inside!

They do whiskey tasting days. I've steered clear so far.

It's about time I break out the 12 year old Aberlour again. Haven't had a sip since moving in

Just bought this wonderful blended whisky by Great King Street. A real craft product, it is non chill-filtered, with natural colour and 43%. On the palate there is a lightness of touch but with an expanse of baked vanilla, soft warming spices and toasty oak. If you enjoy a creme brulee, this is for you! Great value at under £30 for 50cl. i will certainly try their Glasgow Blend which has a more sherried influence.

I was invited round to a neighbours house on Sunday night for a little whisky tasting. He has a nice selection of different whisky, but as I had never really tasted French Whisky, I asked if we could keep it fairly local. We started the evening with this: A pretty average whisky made local to Toulouse. It was nice, but not outstanding. We then moved slightly further north to the Albi region, and tried this: Vilanova Terrocita. This was much more to my liking, slightly peaty with a sweet vanilla tone to it. I am tempted to buy one.... We then moved on to this: Again, very pleasant, but not as memorable as the Vilanova was. Then my neighbour played his trump card, and pulled out one of these: This was by far the most pleasant we tasted that evening, even if it is a blended whisky. The Japanese are certainly making some good whisky these days. On the back of that, as it is my turn to host the session next time, I have had to replenish my stocks. This is getting hard to find and is very good (even if it is double the price I originally paid for a bottle of it) Next up, a limited release from Ardbeg- Kelpie I am a big fan of Ardbeg, and this is supposed to be very good. I also wanted something from a smaller Islay distillery, and found this: The reviews seem good, so it will be interesting to have a taste when the time comes. Another interesting whisky I spotted was this: Again, good reviews were posted for this. I have not tried this before, so another I am looking forward to. And to finish it off, I fancied something different as an after dinner beverage. it's a good job I don't shop for whisky very often. The amazing thing is that my wife would prefer me to spend money on Whisky than HiFi. Something I will never understand....

Very interesting, thanks for posting!
French whisky is a new one for me, never seen it before.
I like the look of Kilchoman and it's reasonably priced, think I'll have one of those.
Did your neighbour really pull out a 17 year old Hibiki?? That's a £200-300 bottle of whisky!!
I've only tried their 'entry level' Japanese Harmony whisky which is still £60 - absolutely delicious.
I've got absolutely no problem with blended whisky nowadays - there are simply good ones and bad ones ...

Yes, he really did pull out a bottle of 17 YO Hibiki. One of only 500 in France.
I made sure that he only gave me a small amount for a taster, as I did not want to take the mickey.
