No mate - that's the REAL whisky galore. A bottle salvaged from the boat!

Time for a whisky update! I am currently drinking Aberlour 12 yr old, special non chill-filtered 48%. When I first opened this I wasn't so sure about it, but am really enjoying it now. Very full bodied, rich caramel, toffee & sherry influence. Slightly one-dimensional perhaps but what it does, it does very well ... A recent trip to my favourite bar in Manchester gave me an opportunity to sample the wonderful Hibiki Japanese whisky. If ever you needed proof just how good Japanese whisky is, this is it ... Perhaps the most heavenly nose of any whisky I have tried - a sublime mix of enticing tropical fruits ... Maybe not quite as mind-blowing on the palate but most delicate, with a subtle citrus complexity about it. I need a bottle! I dread to think how good their 17, 21 and even 30 yr old could be ...

Whiskey and great music, in a dimly lit room is one of life's great luxuries.

I've been on heavy-duty painkillers and anti-inflammatories (torn knee ligaments) for what seems like ages, so all I can do is look longingly at what's left of one of these, bought at Christmas...

I was given a gorgeous Aberlour 12 year old double cask matured for my birthday. I still have some of this. Mmm, I fancy a wee dram all of a sudden.

Ouch - sorry to hear that !! How did you do your ligaments in? I don't know that particular Glenmorangie so will check it out ...

Nothing obvious seems to have caused the knee problems, other than attempting to destroy them for many years of playing football, table tennis, and squash. Right knee blew out at the end of last year, had the ligaments repaired in December, just getting back to (ab)normal when my left knee went the same way, except more painfully so now I'm waiting for a scan on that one and then another operation. Apparently it's quite usual for the second one to go straight after the first because you tend to favour it and put extra pressure on it. Anyway, enough of my woes. The Glenmorangie was a limited edition for Christmas. glenmorangie.com/en/glenmorangie-a-midwinter-nights-dram It's nice (it's Glenmorangie so of course it's nice) but I still prefer their Quinta Ruban.

Nope, too tricky. It's now on the TAS FB page so hopefully a resident computer genius can make a better link.
Meant to say proceeds go to a respite/care home on Barra so you can drink whisky and support a good cause!

I'm expecting a bottle of Monkey Shoulder tonight, as selected by my Mrs... It's a blend of Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie which seems to get good reviews.. She loves Glenfiddich and it's quite unusual for her to try something different! I will report back...
