Used to drink a little but have lost the taste for it entirely. Strictly red wine, cognac and pineau now with the very occasional pint of Guiness to wash away the sawdust.

I've just finished a wee snifter of my favourite whiskey with an 'e' (Irish). Paddy, one of the first to be bottled and the only Irish single malt of any of the distillers of consequence. It can be tricky to find in England, but luckily for me, we have a family bolt-hole in West Cork, so it's not too hard to procure! If you like a smooth flavour, then this is the one.

The distillery is in Midleton, the same town as and just down the road a bit from the Jamieson place. I think they've been going since 1770 or something, now owned by Pernod, hence The Paddy is a trendy tipple in French nightclubs, apparently!

Glenfarclas 105 cask strength. Awesome. Yes this is on my wish list ... It is one of the very few cask strengths you can drink straight without a drop of water.

Aberlour a'Bunadh is a favourite here. Amongst many others! I was a founder member of the local malt whisky appreciation society so I've been lucky enough to try loads of lovely whiskeys...

Aberlour a'Bunadh is my favourite Scotch so far Jez - is there anything else in that highly sherried style you can recommend? I haven't found anything that comes close yet ...

That looks like it will be a good session! I hope so! I also have 72 bottles of wine (a mixture of Arnoux Cotes de Ventoux, Spinyback Riesling and Spinyback Pinot Gris) and 72 bottles of Peroni. It should go very well with Macsweens haggis. James Macsween himself is doing the address 'To a Haggis', it doesn't get better than that! If anyone in Edinburgh / Scotland would like to come, there are currently 4 places left, pm me. Lawrence

A quick heads-up for you malt lovers. There is a massive bargain in Waitrose at the moment. Aberlour A'bunadh, 60.5% cask strength, batch 52 for £33.50.
This is cheaper than Glenfiddich!!!! A'bunadh is a bargain at full price so I urge anyone who likes sherried malts to get some in ...

I was given a gorgeous Aberlour 12 year old double cask matured for my birthday. Needless to say, I'm enjoying a 'wee dram' when I get home from work.

I picked this up at Gatwick on the way to Italy recently, rather good Paddy is one of my favourite Irish Whiskey's Chris, my Dad (also known as Paddy) used to drink it a lot and he was born not far from the original distillery in Cork. As you say, a very smooth whiskey and very drinkable.
